운주사 무형유산의 가치 인식과 제고 (Recognition and Enhancement of the Value of Unjusa Intangible Heritage)

초록

유네스코는 1972년 ‘세계문화유산 및 자연유산의 보호에 관한 협약’을 성안(成案)하고, 인류 공동 유산으로서 가치가 인정된 문화유산을 ‘세계유산목록’에 등재해서 보호하고 있다. 세계유산협약은 ‘탁월한 보편적 가치’라는 개념을 중심으로 유산의 보호 제도를 규율하고 있다. 화순군은 운주사를 ‘유네스코 세계유산’에 등재하기 위해서 많은 노력을 했고, 오랜 시간 연구 끝에 다양한 성과를 도출했다. 그러나 ‘유네스코 세계유산’이 유형유산에 초점이 맞춰져 있고, 이러한 경향성에 무게 중심을 두면서 운주사의 연구 또한 유형유산에 편중되는 경향을 보였다. 무형유산이 없는 유형유산은 빈 껍데기에 불과하다. 현재 유네스코 또한 유형유산과 무형유산의 관계성, 무형의 가치에 큰 관심을 보이고 있다. 본 논문은 운주사이야기를 통해서 운주사의 무형의 가치를 탐색한다. 운주사 이야기는 주민들의 일상 경험에서부터 신화, 전설 등 다양한다. 운주사 이야기는 현대에 시대 상황과 접속하면서 문화ㆍ예술로 재창조되기도 했다. 그럼에도 운주사 무형의 가치를 탐색하고 보존할 수 있는 박물관, 기록관 등이 없다. 이에 운주사가 현재 세대의 감성 체계와 조응하면서 미래의 가치를 창출할 수 있는 방안으로 ‘운주사 라키비움’ 구축을 제안했다. 본 논문은 유적을 보여줄 수 있는박물관, 연구 자료 및 2차ㆍ3차 콘텐츠 등을 집적하고 활용할 수 있는 기록관과 도서관 등이융합된 문화복합공간으로서 ‘운주사 라키비움’ 구축의 필요성을 제기하고 있다. 무형유산의체계적 관리와 보존, 활용을 통해서 세계유산으로서 운주사의 가치를 제고한다.

영어초록

In 1972, UNESCO established the ‘Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage’ as a document, and has protected the cultural heritage recognized as a common heritage of humanity by listing it on the ‘world heritage list’. The World Heritage Convention regulates the protection system of heritage centered on the concept of ‘outstanding universal value’. Hwasun-gun County put a lot of effort into registering Unjusa as a ‘UNESCO world heritage site,’ and after a long period of research, obtained various results. However, ‘UNESCO world heritage’ focuses on tangible heritage, and along with this tendency, Unjusa’s research also showed a tendency to focus on tangible heritage. Tangible heritage without intangible heritage is nothing more than an empty shell. Currently, UNESCO is also showing great interest in the relationship between tangible heritage and intangible heritage, and the intangible value. This study explores the intangible value of Unjusa through Unjusa stories. Unjusa stories range from the daily experiences of residents to myths and legends. Unjusa stories have been recreated through culture and art in modern times by connecting with the times.
Nevertheless, there are no museums or archives that can explore and preserve the intangible values of Unjusa. Accordingly, the construction of ‘Unjusa Lachivium’ was proposed as a way for Unjusa to create future value while responding to the emotional system of the current generation. This study raises the need to build ‘Unjusa Larchiveum (Library + Archives + Museum)’ as a cultural complex space that combines a museum that can show historical sites, an archives and a library that can collect and utilize research materials and secondary and tertiary content. The value of Unjusa should be enhanced as a world heritage through systematic management, preservation, and utilization of its intangible heritage.
