근대한문학의 성격과 辛亥唫社 (A Characteristic of the Modern Chinese Literature and the Shinhaeumsa)

초록

본고는 매우 복잡다단했던 근대 시기 한문학의 성격 이해를 위한 하나의 방법을 살펴보기 위해 준비하였다. 일반적으로 애국계몽기로 불리는 1910년 이전까지와는 달리 식민지시기 한문학은 퇴출 대상 혹은 퇴영적 구태의연한 그 무엇으로 지목되어 보다 적극적이면서도 구체적으로 살펴지지 못해 왔다. 본고에서는 근대 언론매체를 이용한 漢詩壇, 즉 辛亥唫社의 편집을 담당했던 安往居(본명 安宅重)의 활동과 漢詩의 존재양상에 접근하여 이 시기 한문학의 성격을 엿보고자 하였다.
신해음사의 성격은 기본적으로 근대의 도래와 식민시기의 거친 변화 속에서 전국적으로 산재한 한문식자층의 한시 교양을 근대 매체로 수용하고자 한 것이다. 다만 식민이라는 현실적 제약 아래 시인의 감정으로 표출하는 한시 고유의 ‘詩言志’ 기능, 특히 사회 현실에 대한 토로는 스스로 제약하고 말았다. 이 점에서 편집자 안왕거가 ‘시학부흥’을 염두에 두었던 점은 당시 일제의 정책에 부수한 보수적 행보로 보이기도 한다. 하지만 그는 법관양성소, 한성사범학교, 외국어학교의 교관을 지냈던 인물로 청년학생층을 염두에 두고 시대변화에 반응하여 한시학, 즉 ‘시학’의 새로운 변용을 모색한 것으로 생각된다.
한편 한문이라는 표기수단과 국권을 상실한 상황에서의 한시는 과거로의 회고적 존재였으나, 근대적 매체를 통한 구지식층의 ‘가상의 공동체’를 형성하는 역할도 하였다. 이와 같은 한시 교양은 이후 공고화되는 식민 상황에서 현실에 대한 발언의 긍정적, 혹은 부정적 방식으로 재발견되고 있는데, 『신생활』과『신민』이 보여준 한시란의 활용은 그 대표적 사례이다. 한시로 살펴본 근대한문학의 성격은 이제 식민이라는 제한된 여건을 충분히 감안한 보다 세심하게 살펴서 자리 잡아야 할 과제로 제기해 본다.

영어초록

This paper is prepared to examine a method to understand a characteristic of the Chinese literature which met a very complicated modern society. Different from the period of patriotism and enlightenment before 1910, the Chinese literature during the period of Japanese colony was pointed out as an object to be thrown out and something same old or retrospective that it could not be studied actively either in concrete. We intended to see an existence aspect and a characteristic of the Chinese literature in that period through a Chinese poetry circle that used a modern media, that was the Shinhaeumsa and activity of An Wang-Geo(Real name is An Taek-Jung) who edited the magazine.
Basically, the Shinhaeumsa tried to introduce Chinese poems created by highbrows of the Chinese letters scattered all over the country by a modern media in harsh changes of a modern era's coming and Japanese colony. However, at that time, 'poetic language(Shieonji)', the unique function of the Chinese poem with which poets could express the social reality with their emotion was restricted by itself due to a realistic limitation under Japanese colony. With this viewpoint, it looks that the editor, An Wang-Geo took a conservative step in compliance with Japan's policy by planing the 'Renaissance of poetics'. But we think that he, as a person who had been a teacher in a law school, Hansung educational college and a foreign language school tried to find a way to renew the Chinese poems, that is, the 'poetics' responding to the changes of times considering young students.
In a situation of losing the national sovereignty and a Chinese letters as a means of writing at that time, the Chinese poem was something to retrospect the past but it also played a role to build a 'virtual community' of old intellectuals through a modern media. However, the culture of the Chinese poems in that time is later being rediscovered as a way of positive or negative utterance on the reality under the colony situation which was getting more solid, and utilization of columns of the Chinese poems in the 「A New Life」 and the 「New Citizen」 would be a representative example. We have examined the characteristic of the Chinse literature by studying Chinese poems and, now suggest that the characteristic of the Chinese literature should place as a task that we shall need to investigate more in sophisticated fully considering the limited condition of a colony.
