中國 環境史 연구의 현황과 課題 (The Present Situation and Problems of the Ecological History Researches in China)

초록

자연과 인간의 상호관계를 연구하는 환경사는 기존의 환경의 역사와는 달리 학과
를 뛰어넘는 연구가 필요하기 때문에 독자적인 연구를 위해 새로운 학과의 창설이 요
청된다. 그런 연후에 자연과학과 공학과의 연대를 단계적으로 설정하여 피라미드 방
식을 거쳐 최종적인 목표에 도달할 수 있도록 역할과 좌우의 연결고리를 구체적으로
제시할 필요가 있다.
중국의 환경사 연구는 역사지리학, 농업사와 환경고고학을 중심으로 전개되었지
만, 인간과 자연의 상호관계를 밝힌 연구는 아직 많지 않다. 최근 서구의 환경사 이론
과 다양한 연구성과를 도입하여 본격적인 학제적 연구를 진행하고 있다.
그러나 비록 오래전부터 “天人合一”한다는 전통적인 생태관을 지녀왔지만, 市場開
放 이후 이런 학계의 관심과는 달리 개발도상국의 위치와 공산당에 의한 사회주의 국
가체제라는 현실적인 상황 속에서 환경생태 부문이 생태사회라는 커다란 희곡의 무
대에서 중심적인 역할을 할 것이라는 기대는 쉽지 않다.
이제부터라도 자연에 대한 인간의 능력을 過信할 것이 아니라 인간의 기술개발에
도 한계가 있으며, 생태 자원도 무한정한 인간의 기술을 감당하기에는 한계가 있다는
사실을 정확히 인식하는 것이 필요하다. 이런 점에서 생태계의 상호 공존과 순환원리
를 이용하여 환경의 문제를 해결해왔던 고대 동양적 환경인식을 새롭게 환기하여 개
발, 발전시킬 필요가 있다. 환경문제는 생명의 문제이며 미래사회 우리 모두의 문제
이기 때문이다.

영어초록

Ecological History, which studies the mutual relationship between nature and human beings,
needs a multidisciplinary approach beyond the expertise of any single academic department, unlike
the practices in the established Environmental History, that the creation of a whole new kind
of academic department is required for it. Ecological History needs, in other words, to propose
concretely its role and linkages on the right and left, outlining step by step the cooperation
between Humanities and Social Sciences, with Natural Sciences, and then with Engineering
Technology in a pyramidal structure to arrive finally at its eventual destination. It is also needed,
in order for it not to remain as a plain combination between different academic departments,
to mutually examine and verify the outcomes of its researches.
The Ecological History researches in China has been developed centering on Historical
Geography, Agricultural History and Environmental Archeology, but the researches explaining
the mutual relationships between human beings and nature are still limited in number. Recently
the introduction of Ecological History theories and its various research outcomes from the western
academic world is triggering full-scale multidisciplinary research programs.
Although China has long been retaining its traditional ecological view of ‘天人合一(Tian
Ren He Yi: union of man and nature)’, However, it is difficult to expect, after the opening
of market, unlike those academic concerns, that the field of environmental ecology will really
perform a central role on the gigantic stage of ecological society under the circumstances of
its position as a developing country and of the socialist state system by the Communist Party.
From now on, nevertheless, we must recognize precisely both the limit in the technological

development by human beings and the limit on the part of the ecological resources to take the
limitless repertoires of human technology. On this point, we need to call newly to attention,
develop, and improve on, the ancient Asian ecological understanding which solved the environmental
problems employing the principles of the mutual coexistence and circulation in the ecological
system. It is most required that the human beings stop to play a zero-sum game on nature but
acknowledge its equal partnership, pursue a win-win strategy for both, and develop the production
methods and logic for ‘兼愛(JianAi: universal love)’, for the ecological problems are the problems
of life, the problems of all of us in the future society.
