양강楊江의 역사문화자원 발굴과 활용－조선 효종비孝宗妃 인선왕후仁宣王后 국장의 양강 수로반차水路班次 사례를 중심으로－ (Discovery and utilization of historical and cultural resources in Yanggang: Focusing on the case where the state funeral procession of Queen Inseon, the queen of Hyojongbi, moved to Yanggang Waterway )

초록

본 논문은 남한강 양평 구간을 흐르는 양강의 역사문화자원 발굴의 일환으로 조선시대 제17대임금인 효종의 왕비, 인선왕후 국장 행렬이 양강수로로 이동한 사례의 특이성에 주목하고 장례의전체 과정과 지역사적 의미를 고찰하였다.
1674년 2월 24일 인선왕후가 경덕궁 회상전會祥殿에서 사망하자 현종은 신하들과 논의 끝에매장지인 여주의 ‘영릉’까지 가는 장례 행렬의 이동로[반차 행로]를 남한강 수로로 결정하였다. 장례 행렬은 육로로 경덕궁에서 광진까지 30리, 이어 광진에서 양강을 거쳐 여주 영릉까지 140리의물길을 사흘 동안 올라가야 했다. 5월 28일 경덕궁에서 발인한 장례 행렬은 광진에서 약 170척의배로 선단을 이루어 올라가 광주廣州의 양절촌襄節村에서 묵고, 5월 29일 대탄 여울을 거쳐 양근의 양강 백양포白羊浦에서 묵은 후, 5월 30일 저녁에 영릉에 도착하였다. 반차 행렬은 영릉에서안장을 마친 후 6월 6일 남한강 수로를 따라 되돌아왔다.
장례 과정에서 수로를 조사하여 준비하고 배와 물자와 인력을 동원하여 배치하는 일을 매우치밀하고 조직적으로 운영한 점도 주목된다. 이러한 조선 왕실의 죽음 의식은 강물길까지도 능히거슬러 올라갈 수 있는 통치의 절대적 권능을 보여준다.
현종은 전년도에 선왕 효종의 영릉을 여주까지 육로로 이동하여 천릉한 후에 해를 거듭하여 치러야 하는 장례의 국가적 부담을 줄이기 위해 수로 반차를 택했을 것으로 보인다. 이와 같은 결정은 이미 양강을 중심으로 한 남한강 수로가 당시의 활발한 수상 교통로 역할을 하였기에 가능하였다.
이 사례는 조선왕조의 장례 의식의 특이한 방법일 뿐 아니라 수로의 대부분 구간이 양강이었다는 점에서 양강의 지역사로서도 연구 가치가 크다고 할 수 있다.
향후 역사, 문화, 지리, 수운, 고미술, 건축, 의복 등 다양한 분야에서 학제적인 연구와 관심이요구되며, 관련 문헌인 의궤의 번역도 이루어져야 할 것이다. 양강에 숨겨진 역사의 대중적 이해와전승을 위하여 본 사례의 역사문화자원을 효율적으로 활용하는 방안도 마련해야 한다.

영어초록

In this paper, As part of the discovery of historical and cultural resources in the Yanggang River flowing through the Yangpyeong section of the Namhangang River, this paper focused on the specificity of the case of the 17th king of the Joseon Dynasty, Queen Hyojong, Queen Inseon's state funeral procession moving to the Yanggang Waterway and considered the entire process and regional historical significance. On February 24, 1674, when Queen Inseon's death at Gyeongdeok Palace 'Hwesangjeon' Hyeonjong decided to use the Namhangang Waterway as the route to Yeongneung Royal Tomb Yeoju‘s, the burial site, after discussions with his servants.
The funeral procession had to go up the waterway of 30 Ri from Gyeongdeokgung Palace to Gwangjin by land, and then 140 Ri from Gwangjin to Yeongneung, Yeoju via Yanggang River for three days. The funeral procession, which started at Gyeongdeokgung palace on May 28, formed a fleet of about 170 ships in Gwangjin, stayed at Yangjeolchon襄節村 in Gwangju, stayed at Baekyangpo白羊浦 in Yanggeun via Daetan Rapids on May 29, arrived at Yeongneung on the evening of May 30, and then completed. After the burial, the funeral procession returned along the Namhangang River waterway on June 6.
It is also noteworthy that in the process of preparing and executing the funeral, the preparation of waterways, mobilization of ships, supplies, and manpower were operated in a very detailed and systematic manner. This death ritual of the Joseon royal family shows the absolute power of governance that can be traced back to the river.
It seemed that Hyeonjong selected the waterway procession in oder to reduce the national burden on the funeral after moving Hyojong's Yeongneung Royal Tomb to Yeoju by land, last year. Against this background, it was possible because the Namhangang River waterway, centered on the Yanggang River, was already served as an active water transportation route at the time.
This case is not only an unusual method of funeral ceremonies in the Joseon Dynasty, but also can be said to be of great research value in terms of the regional history of Yanggang River as most of the waterway was Yanggang River.
In the future, the interdisciplinary research and interest in various fields such as history, culture, geography, ancient art, architecture, and clothing are required, And also, the translation project of the related Uigwe should also be performed of this purpose. For the public understanding and preservation of history hidden in Yanggang River, it is also possible to consider to utilize it as a historical, cultural, and tourism resource.
