연구개발비와 복리후생비의 투자증대가 기업의 성장성과 가치에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of Increased Investment in R&D and Welfare Benefits on Firm's Growth and Value)

초록

본 연구는 KOSPI 상장기업을 대상으로 연구개발비와 복리후생비의 지출 증대가 기업의 자원 및이익 성장성과 기업가치 그리고 종업원 1인당 노동생산성에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 기업존립의 기저인 기술과 조직원에 대한 투자의 중요성에 대해 실증하고자 한다. 연구개발비와 복리후생비에 대한 투자와 기업성과와의 관계를 분석한 기존연구들과의 차이점은 균형성과표(BSC)의 도입여부를통제변수로 활용하여 종속변수에 대한 영향력을 검토한 것이다. 연구개발비와 복리후생비의 중요성은 BSC의 도입기업에 있어 재무성과 향상의 선행요인으로 받아들여지고 있으므로 미도입기업과는이들에 대한 투자 중요성의 인식에 차이가 있을 것이며, 이에 따라 투자규모의 차이와 함께 기업성과에 미치는 영향력에도 차이가 있을 것이다. 분석기간은 2011년부터 2017년까지의 재무자료를 기초로 하였으며, 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 연구개발비와 복리후생비의 전기 대비 증가율이 상위 25% 이내 그룹의 포함여부와 BSC 도입여부, 기업규모, 업종 간의 관계에 관한 교차분석 결과, 매우 유의한 상관관계가 있는 것으로분석되었다. 특히 BSC 도입기업의 상위 25%그룹의 포함비율이 각각 35.7%, 17.9%에 이르러 BSC 도입기업이 이들에 대한 지속적인 높은 투자를 할 것이라는 기대와는 차이가 있었다. 또한 대기업의 경우 연구개발비와 복리후생비에 대한 지출 증가율이 상위에 랭크되었으며, 비제조업 보다는 제조업이 R&D 지출증가율과 유의한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 분석되었다.
둘째, 연구개발비 및 복리후생비의 증가율의 상위기업 모두 매출 및 이익 성장성에 매우 유의한양(+)영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었으며, 기업가치 및 노동생산성에 대해서도 모두 유의수준 1% 수준에서 매우 유의한 양(+)의 관련성을 가지는 것으로 분석되어 이들 지출에 대한 증가율이 높은기업일수록 높은 수준의 성장성과 기업가치를 나타내는 것으로 분석되었다.
연구개발비와 복리후생비 투자에 대한 연구결과는 다양한 결과들이 제시되지만, 본 연구는 이들에 대한 투자확립이 기업의 경쟁력 상승과 기업가치 상승 그리고 종업원의 생산성향상에 대해 유의한 양(+)의 관계를 미치는 결과를 도출함으로써 이들에 대한 경영자의 적극적인 투자를 유도할 수있는 근거를 제시하였다. 그러나 BSC 도입여부와 연구개발비 및 복리후생비에 대한 지출증가율은관련이 없는 것으로 분석되어 이미 연구개발비와 복리후생비에 대한 지출의 중요성은 특정 시스템의 도입운영과 관련 없이 중요하게 인식되는 것으로 파악된다.

영어초록

This study analyzes whether growth rate of R&D and welfare expenses of corporations listed on KOSPI have significant effect on firm's growth, firm value and employee productivity. The difference between this study and previous studies is to review the influence of the BSC on the dependent variables. This is to demonstrate the importance of investment in technology and organizational members. In addition, the importance of R&D and welfare expenses is considered to be a leading factor in the improvement of financial performance in BSC adopters. Therefore, it is thought that there is a difference in the recognition of the importance of the investment to the Non-BSC companies. The analysis period is based on financial data from 2011 to 2017, and the results are as follows.
First, it is analyzed that there is a very significant correlation between the inclusion of the R & D expenses and the welfare cost increase in the upper group, the BSC adoption, firm size, and industry. In particular, the share of the top 25% group of BSC adopters is 35.7% and 17.9%, respectively, which is different from the expectation that BSC adopters will continue to invest heavily in them. In addition, the spending growth rate of R & D expenditure and welfare expenditure ranks high in the case of large enterprises, and it is analyzed that there is a significant correlation between manufacturing and R & D expenditure growth rate rather than non - manufacturing.
Second, the firms with the highest growth rate of R & D and welfare expenses have a significant positive effect on sales and profit growth. In addition, there is a significant positive correlation between corporate value and labor productivity. The higher the growth rate of these expenditures, the higher the level of growth and corporate value The results of research on R & D and welfare expenditure investment show a variety of results, but this study shows that the establishment of investment in them positively affects the increase of competitiveness of enterprise, the increase of enterprise value and employee productivity. This provides a basis for encouraging managers to actively invest in them. However, it was analyzed that BSC adoption and R&D and welfare expenditure growth were not related. It is understood that the importance of R&D expenditure and welfare expenditure is recognized as important regardless of the introduction and operation of the specific system.
