초록

When dimethylsulfide (CH3SCH3) gas was supplied to a biofilter packed with the bio-carriers. The bio-carriers were the waste polyurethane and the ceramic coated with PVA and the worm cast. They had no need of extra supply of nutrients and of microbial inoculations. On the beginning of the operations, when 3 ppmv of DMS was supplied to the biofilters at the space velocity (SV) of 50 h-1, the biofilter packed with the polyurethane carrier showed 100% removal of DMS gas after 3 days. On the contrary, the biofilter packed with ceramic carrier showed 2.3 times long lag phase (7 days). The gradual inlet DMS concentration was set and the removal efficiency of DMS gas was measured at each condition, while the SV of DMS increased step by step from 50 to 150 h-1. The maximum possible removal capacities of the polyurethane biofilter were 3.50, 3.98, 5.50 g-Sm-3·h-1 while maintaining the removal efficiency of 90% when the SV were increased from 50 h-1 to 150 h-1, respectively. That of the ceramic biofilter showed 2.73, 2.62, 1.44 g-Sm-3·h-1, respectively. For 60 day operations of the biofilter, the polyurethane biofilter showed superior removal efficiencies than the ceramic biofilter.
