문화지리학을 통한 문학공간 이해 교육:탈북 디아스포라 소설을 중심으로 (Education of understanding literary spaces through cultural geography: Focusing on the novels of North Korean diaspora.)

초록

본고는 공간에 의해 형성된 인간의 정체성을 연구하는 문화지리학의 시각에서 문학공간 이해 교육의 가능성을 탐색한 연구이다. 이를 위해 탈북 디아스포라 소설을 사례로 문학공간과 그 안의 정체성을 탐색한 후, 문학공간 이해 교육의 의의와 교수·학습방안의 대략적인 얼개를 제시하고자 하였다.
문화지리학의 관점에서 문학공간은 ‘변화하지 않는 정체성’, ‘변화하는 정체성’, ‘이야기 정체성’으로 구분된다. 첫째, ‘변화하는 정체성’에는 민족 정체성과 국가 정체성이 있다. 탈북 디아스포라 소설의 북한이탈주민은 탈북 이전의 민족 정체성은 유지하면서도 스스로 새로운 공간을 선택하는 것을 통해 국가 정체성을 드러냈다. 둘째, ‘변화하지 않는 정체성’에는 실존 정체성과 문화 정체성이 있다. 탈북 디아스포라 소설의 북한이탈주민은 탈북 이후 접하는 자본주의 사회로 인한 실존 정체성과 문화 정체성의 큰 변화를 보여준다. 셋째, ‘이야기 정체성’은 서사가 진행되면서 형성되는 정체성이다. 탈북 디아스포라 소설에서 북한이탈주민은 체제나 타의에 의해 흔들리지 않는 자신만의 정체성을 형성하고 그 외의 인물은 동정과 연민이 아닌 열린 시각의 정체성을 형성하는 양상을 보였다.
따라서 문학공간 이해 교육은 그 공간을 살아가는 인간의 정체성을 이해하는 교육이어야 한다. 학습자는 문학공간의 이해를 통해 인물의 정체성은 물론, 실제로 자신이 어떤 공간에 위치하는지를 발견하는 일을 통해 자신의 정체성을 정립할 수 있다. 또한 문학공간에서 더 나아가 실존하는 공간에

This study presents an investigation into the possibilities of education to understand literary spaces from the viewpoint of cultural geography. The study examined literary spaces in novels about the diaspora of North Korean defection and their identities to propose the significance of education to promote the understanding of literary spaces and their teaching and learning plans roughly.
From the viewpoint of cultural geography, literary spaces are classified according to ‘unchanging identities’, ‘changing identities’, ‘story identities’. First, ‘changing identities’ include ethnic and national identities formed according to spaces. In novels about the diaspora of North Korean defection, North Korean defectors reveal their national identities by choosing a new space while keeping their old ethnic identity before defecting North Korea. Secondly, ‘changing identities’ include existential and cultural identities. In novels about the diaspora of North Korean defection, North Korean defectors undergo huge changes to their existential and cultural identities in a capitalist society. Finally, ‘story identities’ include identities formed according to the progress of a narrative. In novels about the diaspora of North Korean defection, North Korean defectors form their own identities not to be shaken by a system or others’ will. People dealing with them also form an identity in an open viewpoint rather than sympathy and compassion.
These findings raise a need to provide education on the understanding of literary spaces as education to understand the identities of people living in such spaces. Such education can help learners understand the identities of characters and establish their own identities by understanding literary spaces. Learners can also understand and sympathize with the identities of others in spaces that exist further from literary spaces.
