한반도 중서부 출토 일부 고대 세라믹 유물의 제작기술 해석: 예비 연구 (Interpretation on Making Techniques of Some Ancient Ceramic Artifacts from Midwestern Korean Peninsula: Preliminary Study)

초록

차령산맥 남북의 7개 유적에서 신석기시대 빗살무늬 토기부터 조선시대 백자까지 시대적으로 일부 시료를 선별하여 물리화학적 및 광물학적 정량분석을 통해 고대 세라믹의 제작기술과 특성을 해석하였다. 연구대상 선사시대 토기는 연질에 테쌓기한 흔적이 나타나며, 삼국시대 토기는 연질과 경질이 공존하나 자비와 저장용기는 모두 테쌓기한 반면 배식기는 물레성형하였다. 태토의 정선도가 높은 삼국시대 이후 토기와 달리 신석기 및 청동기시대 토기는 사질태토에 높은 광물 함량을 보이며, 태토보다 큰 비짐이 다량 확인된다. 청자와 백자 기질에서는 일차광물이 거의 나타나지 않으나 고온생성 광물의 함량이 높게 동정되었다. 분석시료들은 시기에 관계없이 유적에 따라 주성분 및 미량원소에 약간의 차이가 나타났다. 지구화학적 거동특성도 거의 동일하여 태토의 기본적 성질은 유사한 것을 지시한다. 작열감량은 0.01∼12.59wt.% 범위를 보여 편차가 크나, 선사시대에서 삼국시대로 가며 급격히 감소한다. 이들은 소성에 따른 중량감소율과 관련이 있으며, 태토의 소성도와 고온생성 광물의 검출 함량에 따라 5그룹의 추정 소성온도로 분류된다. 신석기시대와 청동기시대 토기는 모두 750∼850℃ 그룹에 속하고, 삼국시대 토기는 750∼1,100℃의 소성온도 범위에서 다양하게 확인되며, 청자와 백자는 1,150~1,250℃의 고온에서 소성된 것으로 나타났다. 제작시기에 따른 태토의 정선도와 소성온도 차이는 제작기술이 발전함에 따라 원료수급과 소성방식이 변화된 결과로 보인다. 그러나 같은 시기에도 제작방법에 차이를 보이기도 하여, 단순히 한 방향으로 진화된 발전보다는 사용 목적과 필요에 따라 활용한 것으로 해석된다.

영어초록

Some ceramic artifacts representing time-wise from comb pattern pottery in the Neolithic Age to white porcelain in Joseon Dynasty were selected from 7 sites in the north and south area of Charyeong Mountain Range in order to making techniques interpretation and development process of ancient ceramics through physicochemical and mineralogical quantitative analysis. Studied pottery samples in the Prehistoric times showed trace of ring piling in soft-type, and pottery in the Three Kingdoms Period had both soft and hard-type but kettle-ware and storage-ware were made with ring piling, but table-ware was made by wheel spinning. Different from pottery after the Three KingdomPeriod when refinement of source clay was high, pottery in the Neolithic Age and in the Bronze Age exhibited highly mineral content in sandy source clay, which showed a lot of larger temper than source clay. Groundmass of celadon and white porcelain almost did not reveal primary minerals but had high content of minerals by high temperature firing. Ceramic samples showed some different in major and minor elements according to sites irrespective of times. Geochemical behaviors are very similar indicating similar basic characteristics of source clay. However, loss-on-ignition showed 0.01 to 12.59wt.% range with a large deviation but it rapidly decreased moving from the Prehistoric times to the Three Kingdom Period. They have correlation with the weight loss due to firings, according to burning degree of source clay and detection of high temperature minerals, estimated firing temperatures are classified into 5 groups. Pottery in the Neolithic Age and in the Bronze Age belongs from 750 to 850℃ group; pottery in the Three Kingdom Period are variously found in 750 to 1,100℃ range of firing temperature; and it is believed celadon and white porcelain were baked in high temperature of 1,150 to 1,250℃. It seems difference between refinement of source clay and firing temperature based on production times resulted from change in raw material supply and firing method pursuant to development of production skill. However, there was difference in production methods even at the same period and it is thought that they were utilized according to use purpose and needs instead of evolved development simply to one direction.
