안정복(安鼎福, 1712~1791)의 가례 관념과 실천 (The Concept of Family Rites and its Practice of An Jeongbok (1712~1791))

초록

본 연구는 안정복(安鼎福, 1712~1791)의 가례(家禮) 대한 관념과 일상생활에서 실천을 검토한 것이다. 안정복은 18세기 조선의 지식인이다. 선대의 학문을 토대로 인간과 사회를 이해하면서 성장하였고, 본격적인 연구 활동은 주희(朱熹, 1130~1200) 저술을 학습하는 데서 시작하였다. 안정복이 가례에 대한 원칙과 실천의 방식은 어떠하였나.
관례와 혼례, 제사와 상례에서 안정복은 고례와 주희의 『가례』를 기반으로 하고, 이익(李瀷, 1681~1763)의 저술과 세속의 방식을 적용하여 자신만의 방식으로 정리하고 실천하였다. 관례는 반드시 시행하고, 고례와 『가례』에서 필요한 절목을 가져왔으며, 개인의 사회적 지위와 경제적 사정을 고려하여 사용하는 물품을 마련하였다. 혼례는 고례에서 중요한 절차를 가져오고, 『가례』를 기본으로 하면서, 신부의 집에서 혼례를 하는 우리나라의 전통적인 관습을 적극적으로 수용하였다. 그리고 각 절차는 문서로 기록하여 의례의 공정성과 객관성을 확보하였다. 특히 혼례에서 여성의 존재와 역할을 주의 깊게 기록하고 문서로 남겼다. 상례와 제사도 원칙은 같았다. 집안의 형편에 맞게 물품을 준비하고, 자손은 역할을 분담하였다. 상속은 집안에서 구성원들 사이에 의무와 권리를 분배하는 과정이기 때문에 상속을 받으면 제사에 역할을 분담하게 하였다.
안정복은 전통 학문에 뿌리를 두고 새로운 학문을 비판적으로 수용하고 자신의 것으로 정리하였다. 안정복은 고례에서 출발해서 『가례』와 시속을 함께 담아 자신의 형편에 맞게 가례의 절차를 정리하였다. 안정복은 고례도 『가례』도 시중에서 통용되는 방식도 모두 수용하였다. 여기서 18세기 조선 지식인의 자의식을 볼 수 있다. 안정복은 가례에서 중국의 고례나 주희의 『가례』를 무조건 따를 것이 아니고, 조선의 전통과 법제를 존중하고 자신의 형편에 맞게 실천하였다.

영어초록

The study examines Ahn Jeongbok (1712-1791)'s thoughts on family rites and practices in everyday life. Ahn was an intellectual from Joseon in the 18th century. He achieved intellectual growth by understanding humans and society based on his predecessors' studies, and his full-fledged research activities began with learning the writings of Zhu Xi (1130-1200).
Rite of adulthood, rite of weddings, sacrificial rites, and funerary rites, Ahn's thoughts were based on the old rites and "Family Rites" of Zhu Xi, and organized and practiced in his own way by applying the writings of Yi Ik and the common world. Rite of adulthood must be enforced, sections were brought from the old rites and "Family Rites", and items used were prepared in consideration of individual social status and economic circumstances. The rites of the wedding brought important procedures from the old rites and actively accepted our traditional method based on the "Family Rites." Each procedure was recorded in writing to ensure the fairness and objectivity of the ritual. The roles of men and women in the rite of the wedding were distinguished, and the existence and role of women were carefully recorded and left in writing. Ahn's principles were the same for the sacrificial rite and the funerary rite. Items were prepared according to the circumstances of the family. Sacrificial rite and the funerary rite shared a role with inheritance. Inheritance is the process of distributing obligations and rights among members in the family, and when inherited, it is allowed to play a certain role in the ritual.
Ahn was rooted in traditional studies and critically accepted new studies and organized them into his own. Ahn started from the old rites and organized the procedure of family rites according to his circumstances by including "Family Rites" and the customs together. Ahn accepted both the old rites and "Family Rites", and the way it was used in ordinary lives as well. Here, the self-consciousness of Joseon intellectuals in the 18th century can be found.The important point in the principle and practice of the ritual that Ahn thought was not to unconditionally follow the "Family Rites" of China or Zhu Xi, but to respect the traditions and laws of Joseon and practice them according to the circumstances of the family.
