나툼과 회향을 통해본 대행의 삼공 (Daehaeng’s Philosophy and the ‘Three Empty Phenomena’: Focused on the Manifestation and Cessation of the One Mind)

초록

본 논문은 대행선의 존재론적 특성을 고찰하기 위하여 한마음의 나툼과 회향을 통하여 드러나는 삼공을 고찰하였다.
대행은 일체의 만물, 만생이 끊임없이 변하고 화化하여 나투고 돌아가는 변화를 통하여 불교를 논하고, 부처와 중생을 논한다. 그는 영원한 현재를 중심으로 정토淨土와 예토穢土가 하나인 여기를 통하여 나와 남의 구분이 없는 일체가 다양하게 나투고 회향廻向하는 공체共體,공심共心의 세계를 밝히고 있다.
영원한 오늘의 관점에서 보면 세계는 한마음이다. 한마음은 고정되지 않아서 무심이 변하여 일심으로 화하고, 공심으로 나투고 다시 돌아가서 무심과 하나가 된다. 이처럼 한마음은 끊임없이 화하여 나투고 돌아가는 나툼과 회향으로 드러난다.
만법은 한마음의 나툼과 회향이다. 무심의 관점에서 보면 만법은 유무有無의 분별과 무분별이 평등하여 둘이 아닌 평등공법이며, 일심의 관점에서 보면 만법은 끊임없이 다양하게 화하여 나투는 활궁공법이고, 공심共心을 통하여 보면 만법은 서로가 서로를 존재하게 하는 공존共存, 공생共生, 공식共食의 수레공법이다.
나툼과 회향의 관점에서 보면 부처와 중생, 보살이 고정되지 않고 끊임없이 나투기 때문에 없는 것은 아니지만 회향의 관점에서 보면 나투었다가 다시 나투기 이전으로 돌아가기 때문에 있다고 할 수 없다. 따라서 그 어떤 것도 고정됨이 없이 화化하고 돌아갈 뿐이다.
지금 여기 나의 삶은 부처와 보살 그리고 중생이 끊임없이 나투는 변화의 연속이지만 변화는 매 순간 회향하기 때문에 변화하여도 변화함이 없다. 지금 여기 나의 삶은 끊임없이 새롭게 변화하여 나타났다가 사라질 뿐이어서 매 순간의 삶, 사건, 나라는 개체가 없는 것은 아니지만 있다고 할 수 없어서 자유자재自由自在하다.

영어초록

When discussing Buddhism, Buddhas, and sentient beings, Seon Master Daehaeng cited the ceaseless change of all things, their transformation, manifestation and cessation. Centered on the timeless “now,” and through “here” where the “pure land” and “defiled land” are one and the same, she clarified the world of the “shared body and shared mind” in which all things, devoid of any distinction between self and others, manifest in myriad ways and return to nonexistence.
From the perspective of the timeless “today,” the world is the Hanmaum [One Mind]. Hanmaum is not static. The “non-mind” transforms into the “one-mind” and manifests as “shared mind.” This then returns to become united with the non-mind. In this way Hanmaum ceaselessly transforms and manifests, and reveals itself through manifestation and return to nothingness.
All phenomena are the manifestation and cessation of Hanmaum. From the perspective of non-mind, all phenomena are equal and non-dual in the discrimination and non-discrimination between existence and non-existence. This represents Ven. Daehaeng’s concept of the “Empty Phenomena of Equality.” From the perspective of one-mind, all phenomena ceaselessly transform and manifest in diverse ways, which represents Ven. Daehaeng’s concept of the “Empty Phenomena of the Lively Arrow.” From the perspective of the shared mind, all phenomena are interdependent in their existence. This represents Ven. Daehaeng’s concept of the “Empty Phenomena of the Vehicle,” which is characterized by shared existence, shared life and shared eating.
From the perspective of manifestation and cessation, Buddhas, sentient beings and Bodhisattvas cannot be said to not exist because they manifest ceaselessly; from the perspective of cessation, they manifest and then return to the point prior to manifestation or nonexistence. Thus they also cannot be said to exist. Therefore, nothing is static; everything keeps transforming and returning to nothingness.
My life here and now consists of continuous changes where Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and sentient beings ceaselessly manifest, but return to nothingness each moment; thus things change but essentially do not change. My life here and now ceaselessly changes anew, and things come and go; each moment of life, events and this entity called “self” cannot be said to not exist, but cannot be said to exist either. Therefore, I live a life of freedom.
