가톨릭 관점에서 본 루터와 칼뱅의 직무 이해 (The Understanding of Church Ministry by Luther and Calvin from a Catholic Perspective)

초록

제2차 바티칸 공의회를 전후해서 가톨릭교회 안에 쇄신과 개혁의 움직임이 있었고 많은 가톨릭 신학자들이 루터와 칼뱅을 재평가하였다. 본고는 이를 바탕으로 두 개혁 신학자의 직무론을 소개하고 가톨릭 신학의 관점에서 다룬다. 루터는 교회의 폐단에 마주하여 사회와 교회의 관계, 교회 내의 기본 구조를 존중하며 하느님 말씀을 척도로 교회 개혁을 시도하였다. 믿는 이들의 공동체라는 교회 정의, 세례받은 모든 사람의 사제직, 주교직과 신부직의 동등성 등은 루터 직무론의 특징이다. 제2차 바티칸 공의회는 루터 교회와 가톨릭교회 사이에 직무에 대한 큰 차이가 없음을 확인하였다. 가톨릭교회의 직무론은 성직자와 평신도 사이의 우열이 아니라 다양성을 실현할 구조를 필요로 한다. 조직 신학자인 칼뱅은 직무 본질을 통찰하며 새로운 직무 구조를 제안한다. 하늘에 있는 그리스도를 대신해서 지상에서 하느님의 일을 수행하는 봉사자가 교회이고 하느님은 그를 위해 직접 교회 안에 직무를 설정하였다는 것이 칼뱅의 출발점이다. 직무자는 구원의 도구이므로 직무의 사도성은 도구적 역할의 실제적 수행 여부에 따라 결정된다. 칼뱅은 목자, 교사, 장로, 집사 등 새로운 직무 구조를 설정하였다. 그 안에는 성직자와 평신도, 남성과 여성, 교리와 실천의 영역이 서로 구분되면서도 포괄된다. 따라서 칼뱅의 구상은 성직자와 평신도가 협력할 수 있는 모델을 가톨릭교회에 제시한다. 직무의 불가결성, 직무자의 봉사적 특성, 하느님을 드러내야 할 직무자의 성사성 등 루터와 칼뱅과 가톨릭교회의 직무론은 그 근본 이해에서 서로 호응한다. 하느님이 제정한 직무 가치의 보존, 교회 내의 다양성을 일치시킬 직무자의 자질, 정체성과 활동을 통합하는 직무자의 모범이 오늘날 한국 사회에 요청된다.

영어초록

Before and after the Second Vatican Council, there have been movements of renovation and reformation in the Catholic Church; and many Catholic theologians have reevaluated Luther and Calvin. Based on these, this thesis aims at introducing the theories of church ministry by these two reformers from the perspective of Catholic theology. Faced with the irregularities and evil practices of the church, Luther sought its reformation. He did so while respecting the relation of the church and society at large, as well as the basic structure of the church, both of which as based on the Word of God. Luther’s theory of church ministry is characterized by the definition that the church is the community of believers, by the priesthood of all the baptized, and by the equality between the episcopate and the priesthood. The II VC confirmed that there are no great differences between the Lutheran Church and the Catholic Church on their viewpoints on church ministry. The present perspective of the Catholic Church on ministry needs a structure to realize the diversity of clergy and lay people rather than to distinguish the supremacy of the one over the other. Through systematic theological investigation on the essence of ministry, Calvin, for his part, suggested a new structure of offices. On behalf of Christ in heaven, church is the one who serves the tasks of God on earth; for this purpose God Himself assigned offices within the Church. This is the starting point of Calvin’s theology. Since the minister is the instrument of salvation, the apostolicity of ministry is decided by the actual performances of instrumental roles. Calvin established a new structure of ministry, such as pastors, teachers, elders and deacons. Within that structure, priests and laity(both men and women), teaching and practice are distinguished from each other; but they are not exclusive from each other since they are essential to each other. Consequently, Calvin presents to the Catholic Church a structural model in which clergy and lay people can cooperate and help each other. The perspectives on ministry by Luther, Calvin and the Catholic Church agree in terms of their essential understandings, including the indispensable necessity of the ministry, the characteristics of ministers as servants, and sacramentality of ministers as persons who should represent God. It is hoped that in Korean society today there can be preserved the value of ministry established by God, the talent of ministers in harmonizing diversity within the church, and the example of ministers in integrating Christian identity and activity.
