초록

이 연구는 중세․근대국어 보조사 연구의 쟁점을 정리하고 이후 보조사 연구의 과제를 도출하는 데 목적이 있다. 중세․근대국어 보조사 연구의 가장 큰 쟁점은 보조사의 목록 설정과 관련하여 어떤 형식을 보조사 목록에 포함할 것인가에 대한 것이다. 보조사의 목록 설정 문제는 보조사의 범주적 특징, 보조사와 의존명사, 접미사, 격조사 등 다른 인접범주와의 관련성, 문법화의 완료 시점 등의 문제와 관련된다. 보조사는 다른 조사에 비해 분포가 자유롭다. 체언뿐만 아니라 부사, 용언의 활용형에 후행하며 격조사와 통합하는 경우 문법격 조사에 선행하고 의미격 조사에 후행한다. 이러한 통합 관계를 기준으로 보조사와 다른 인접범주에 속하는 의존명사, 접사, 격조사를 분류해 낼 수 있다. 또한 보조사 가운데 문법화 과정을 겪은 형식들이 보여주는 통사적, 의미적 변화를 통해 보조사로서의 귀결 여부를 판단해 볼 수 있다. 시간의 연장선상에서 발생하는 문법화 과정을 하나의 단면으로 이해하기는 어려우나 기원적 형식이 갖는 통사․의미적 관계를 벗어나 보조사로서의 분포를 보인다면 그 시기의 보조사 목록에 포함할 수 있다.
중세․근대국어 보조사의 의미에 대해서는 앞으로 더 연구되어야 할 분야이다. 보조사를 문장 내에 실현된 성분과 실현되지 않은 성분(대안집합)과의 의미적 관계를 표현하는 장치로 본다면 보조사의 의미 기술에서도 이러한 관계를 분명히 드러낼 필요가 있다. 보조사의 의미는 실현된 성분과 대안집합과의 의미 관계에 따라, 혹은 문장 내에 실현된 두 성분의 의미 관계에 따라 ‘첨가, 배제, 비교, 범위, 수량’으로 크게 구분해 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

This research is to examine the issues of the study of the middle and modern Korean auxiliary particles and to deduce the future tasks for the Korean auxiliary particle study. The biggest issue in the middle and modern Korean auxiliary particle study is which form should be put on the list of auxiliary particles, the cataloging of the auxiliary particles.
The cataloging of the auxiliary particles is related to the issues of the categorial characteristics, of the relation with other related categories such as bound nouns, suffixes, case markers, and of the time point of grammaticalization. The auxiliary particles are more flexible in placing than the other postpositions. They can be placed following not only conjugated substantives but also adverbs, predicates, and if they combine with case markers they can be placed before grammatical case markers and after semantic case markers. Based on these relations, the auxiliary particles and other related categories where bound nouns, suffixes, case markers belong to can be classified. Moreover, the grammaticalized forms among the auxiliary particles show syntactic, semantic changes, identifying themselves as an auxiliary particle. It is difficult to perceive the grammaticalization as one dimension since it had happened during the time, but if the grammaticalization appeared to be distributed as an auxiliary particle, out of the syntactic and semantic relations that the initial forms have, then those auxiliary particles could be categorized into the auxiliary particle list of the time.
The middle and modern Korean auxiliary particles require more research on the meaning itself for the future. If the auxiliary particles are defined as demonstrative of the semantic relations between realized and unrealized parts(alternative set), this kind of relation also needs to be clarified for the study of auxiliary particle meaning. The meaning of auxiliary particles can be broadly classified into ‘addition, exclusion, comparison, extent, quantity’, depending on the semantic relation between a realized part and alternative set or between two realized parts.
