진로의사결정에서의 진로장벽의 역할:예측변인 또는 조절변인 (Roles of Career Barriers in Career Decision-Making:Predicting Variable or Moderating Variable)

초록

본 연구는 서울소재 4년제 대학의 대학생을 대상으로 진로의사결정에서의 진로장벽의 역할을 탐색하였다. Spencer, Dupree와 Hartmann(1997)의 진로발달이론에서는 진로장벽이 개인내적 변인(진로정체감, 부적응적 진로사고)들을 통하여 진로의사결정에 간접적으로 영향을 주는 예측변인이라고 하였다. 이에 반하여, Lent, Brown과 Hackett(1994)의 사회인지진로이론에서는 진로장벽이 개인내적 변인들과 진로의사결정 사이에 조절변인으로서 역할을 한다고 하였다. 본 연구에서는 어떠한 진로발달이론이 우리나라 대학생의 진로의사결정에 적용할 수 있는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 결과 진로장벽은 Spencer 외(1997)의 이론에서 제시한 바와 같이 진로정체감과 역기능적 진로사고를 통하여 간접적으로 직업선택확신수준이나 진로미결정수준에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 진로장벽과 진로결정수준 사이에 진로정체감과 역기능적 진로사고가 매개변인으로서 역할을 하였다. 그러나 Lent 외(1994)의 이론이 제시한 바와는 달리 진로장벽의 조절변인으로서의 효과는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 우리나라 대학생을 대상으로 한 진로상담과 진로발달연구에 다양한 시사점을 제시한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 연구결과의 의미와 시사점 등이 논의되었다.

영어초록

The study aimed to identify roles of career barriers in career decision-making in a sample of 300 college students who matriculated in the 4-year universities located in Seoul, Korea. In order to achieve this purpose, the author tested two different career development models, which suggest different roles of career barriers. The model developed by Spencer, Dupree, and Hartmann(1997) indicated that career barriers influence career decision-making through various internal variables such as vocational identity and beliefs regarding career development. Another model created by Lent, Brown, and Hackett(1994) described that career barriers moderate the relationship between internal variables(e.g., interest, self-efficacy) and career choice. Results showed that vocational identity and dysfunctional career thoughts fully mediated the relationship between career barriers and career decision-making level. In other words, career barriers determine career decision-making level only through vocational identity and dysfunctional career thoughts. On the other hand, moderating effects of career barriers were not found. The results revealed that the relationships between vocational identity, dysfunctional career thoughts, and career decision-making level were not different according to career barrier scores. These results imply that career counselors need to consider career barriers along with vocational identity and dysfunctional career thoughts when they counsel college students who have low level of career certainty. More implications and suggestions are discussed in the current study.
