초록

This article is to compare the method of divination established by Zhu Xi with Cheong Yagyong's method of divination in Joseon, and to explain their semiotic implications. With this in mind, we investigated the references involved with I Ching. However, The method of divination already has been lost in ancient times, and merely existed fragmentary evidences and broken records. These reasons makes various methods of divination to set up. Most effective method of divination is one established by Zhu Xi throughout history. The contents of method of divination are introduced and the significances of its symbol are explained. Also, Cheong Yagyong, who examined the Learning of Zhu with a critical eye, threw fresh light on the I Ching, and established the new method of divination. Cheong Yagyong's method of divination has very new and unique system in its contents and philosophical meanings. Giving an explanation of that, explaining the differences of these two methods. But it may be that these two methods are little different from an semiotic point of view, in that they consist of metaphtonymical thinking, without clear-cut distinctions between metaphor and metonymy. It may be assumed that these two methods have the Yin-Yang cosmology indigenous to East Asia.
