불안 및 우울증상을 호소하는 준임상적인 대학생들을 위한 단기 단일화된 범진단적 개입의 효능 (The Efficacy of a Brief Unified, Transdiagnostic Intervention for Subclinical Undergraduate Students with Anxiety or Depression Symptoms)

초록

본 연구에서는 정서장애를 위한 단일화된 범진단적 치료 프로토콜에 기초한 단기 단일화된 범진단적 개입이 준임상수준의 불안 및 우울증상을 호소하는 대학생들의 부정적 정신건강 변인(우울증상, 불안증상, 사회불안증상, 범불안증상, 부정적 정서, 스트레스증상)과 긍정적 정신건강 변인(긍정적 정서, 정신적 웰빙) 및 정서조절 변인(정서조절 곤란, 마음챙김, 심리적 유연성 부족)에 미치는 효과가 검증되었다.
두 가지 우울척도와 세 가지 불안척도 등 다섯 가지 자기 보고형 척도 중에서 한 가지 이상의 척도에서 경도 또는 그 이상의 심각도 기준을충족한 대학생 43명이 본 연구에 참여하였다. 동일한 수의 내담자들이 단기 단일화된 범진단적 개입(n=20)과 심리교육적 개입(n=20)에각각 끝까지 참여하였으며, 두 개입 모두 총 5회기(주 2회, 1회당 90–120분)로 진행되었다. 분석 결과, 단기 단일화된 범진단적 개입 집단은심리교육적 개입 집단에 비해 모든 변인에서 유의한 개선을 보였으며, 이러한 양상은 2주 후까지 유지되는 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로, 이 결과들은 단기 단일화된 범진단적 개입이 불안이나 우울증상을 호소하는 준임상적인 대학생들의 정신건강을 증진시키고 정서조절 능력을 함양하는 데 효과적인 개입임을 시사한다. 끝으로, 본 연구의 의의, 한계점과 향후 연구를 통해 보완해야 할 점들이 논의되었다.

영어초록

In this study, we developed a brief unified, transdiagnostic intervention for subclinical anxiety and depression on the basis of the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders. We then examined its effects on negative mental health variables (i.e., depression, anxiety, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, negative emotion, and stress symptoms), positive mental health variables (i.e., positive emotion and mental well-being), and emotion regulation variables (i.e., difficulties in emotion regulation, mindfulness, and psychological inflexibility) among subclinical undergraduate students with anxiety or depression symptoms. Participants were forty-three undergraduate students who met the criteria for at least a mild level of relevant symptoms on one or more of the five self-report scales, including two depression scales and three anxiety scales. The participants were divided into two groups, among which 20 from one group completed the brief unified, transdiagnostic treatment and 20 from the other group completed the psychoeducational intervention. Each intervention consisted of five semiweekly 90- or 120-minute-long sessions. Compared to the participants in the psychoeducation intervention condition, those in the brief unified, transdiagnostic intervention condition showed improvements on all of the outcome measures.
These improvements were maintained at a two-week follow-up. In conclusion, these results suggest that the brief unified, transdiagnostic intervention is efficacious for promoting mental health and cultivating emotion regulation ability among subclinical undergraduate students with anxiety or depression. Lastly, the theoretical and practical implications of these findings, as well as their limitations, are discussed.
