발해도성(渤海都城)의 성문형식(城門形式)에 대해 (About types of fortress gates of the Balhae capital cities)

초록

성문은 성의 얼굴로서 성의 위계와 기능을 반영할 것이다. 이 글에서는 발해도성 성문의 특징을 파악하였고, 형식을 분류하였으며, 또 수･당 장안성 및 고구려 안학궁성의 성문들과의 비교를 통해 발해도성 성문들의 기원문제에 대해 검토해 보았다.
발해도성에서는 상경성 외성 남벽 정문지, 남벽 동문지, 북벽 중문지, 북벽 11호 문지, 궁성 남벽 정문지, 서문지(3호 문지), 북문지, 서고성 외성 남문지와 북문지, 내성 남문지, 그리고 팔련성 외성 남문지와 내성 남문지가 발굴조사를 통해 성문의 구조가 파악된다.
발해의 성문구조물은 성벽과의 상관관계에 있어 양면돌출형식, 동일선상형식, 어긋형식, 옹성형식으로 구분되지만, 발해도성에서는 어긋형식과 옹성형식은 확인되지 않는다. 양면돌출형식 성문에는 문돈문식(門墩門式), 문돈문중복식(門墩門重複式), 문돈문누문결합식(門墩門樓門結合式), 문돈문누각(기단)결합식(門墩門樓閣基壇結合式), 누문식(樓門式)이 있고, 동일선상형식 성문에는 누문절충식(樓門折衷式)이 있다.
발해도성의 성문구조물은 문돈(門墩), 문길(門道), 격벽(隔璧), 연결 벽(隔牆), 누문기단(樓門基壇), 누각기단(樓閣基壇) 등의 요소로 이루어져 있다. 이 중 문돈이 있는 문돈문식 성문, 즉 초루식 성문은 수･당 장안성과 고구려 안학궁성에서, 누문이 있는 누문식 성문은 고구려 안학궁성에서 각각 찾을 수 있다. 문돈문중복식, 문돈문누문결합식, 문돈문누각결합식 성문구조는 모두 삼문일체형(三門一體形) 혹은 이문(二門) 삼루일체형(三樓一體形)의 성문구조로서 발해에만 고유한 성문형식이다. 팔련성 외성 남문지에서 확인된 누문절충식 성문도 고구려 안학궁성과 수･당 장안성에서는 발견된 바 없다. 발해 상경성에서 외성 정문, 황성 정문, 궁성 정문, 궁성 북문, 외성 북벽 중문 등 남북 중축선 상의 성문들이 모두 서로 다른 형식인 것은 수･당 장안성과 구분되는 발해의 특징적인 용문제도라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

The fortress gate is the face of the fortress and reflects the status of the city and its function. In this paper, we consider the characteristic features of the fortress gates of the Balhae capital cities and classify their types. We also study the problem of their origin, by comparison with the fortress gates of Chang'an City of Sui and Tang dynasty and Anhakkung Palace City of Koguryo.
These fortress gates of the Balhae capital cities are excavated and their materials are known: the main gate of the southern wall, the eastern gate of the southern wall, the main gate of the northern wall and the gate №11 of the northern wall of the outer city, the main gate of the inner city, the main gate, the western gate (gate №3) and the northern gate of the Sanggyeong (Upper) Capital City, the southern and northern gates of the outer wall and the southern gate of the inner city of Sigucheng, the southern gate of the outer city and the southern gate of the inner city of Baliancheng.
In relation to the walls of the fortress, the constructions gates of Balhae are divided into gates that protrude from the inner and the outer sides, not-protruding gates, gates between the sections of the wall that don’t close up and gates in ricetto. However, in the capital cities of Balhae there are no gates of the latter two types. Among the gates protruding from the inner and the outer sides there are the gates with two elevated bases at the sides; gates with more than two elevated bases; gates combining elevated foundations and buildings with columns; gates combining elevated bases and overhead buildings; gates with columned buildings. Non-protruding gates are represented only by hybrid column buildings.
The construction of the gates of Balhae capital cities may include elevated bases, a gateway (passage), the separating wall, the connecting wall, the foundation of the gate building with the passage or the foundation of the gate building without passage. The gates with elevated bases there are the fortress gate in Chang'an City of Sui and Tang dynasty and in Anhakkung Palace City of Koguryo, and the gate buildings with columns is in the Anhakkung Palace City of Koguryo. Gates with more than two elevated bases, gates combining elevated foundations and buildings with columns and gates combining elevated bases and overhead buildings, represent a single complex with three gates or a single complex with two gates and three buildings. They are characteristic only for Balhae. Hybrid column buildings of gates in Baliancheng city are also not found in Chang'an City of Sui and Tang dynasty and Anhakkung Palace City of Koguryo. In the Upper capital of Balhae all the gates are located on the central axis from the south to the north and all they (the main gate of the outer wall (or city), of the inner wall and of the royal city, the northern gate of the royal city and of the outer city) have a different construction, which are the characteristic feature of gate system of the Balhae capital cities.
