환경감수성 함양을 위한 특활반 프로그램의 개발과 효과 (The Development and Effects of Extra Curricular Activity Class Program for Cultivating Environmental Sensitivity)

초록

환경적으로 책임있는 시민이 되기 위한 초등환경교육에서는 환경감수성을 함양하는 것이 중요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 책임있는 환경행동을 이끌어 낼 중요한 요인인 환경감수성에 대하여 정의하고, 환경감수성 함양을 위한 환경특활반 프로그램을 개발하여 3개 학기에 걸쳐 운영하였다. 환경감수성은 환경에 대한 정의적인 영역으로서 환경에서 관찰된 정서를 감정(공감)으로 조망하는 감정조망 수용능력과 자연의 아름다움을 오감으로 바라보고 이해하여 표현하며 감상할 수 있는 심미적 이해·표현·감상 능력으로 정의될 수 있다. 환경특활반 프로그램을 운영한 결과 학생들은 주위 환경을 일상에서 스침의 대상을 넘어서서 눈으로 보고 마음으로 느낄 수 있는 환경적 심미안을 가지게 되었으며, 자신의 관점과 더불어 자연의 관점에서 생각하고 책임있게 행동하게 되는 환경소양을 지니게 되었다. 또한 자연에 대한 아름다운 가치를 그림과 글로 담아내었으며 진정한 자연의 모습을 보고 알며 이해하는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 이는 초등학교에서의 환경교육의 방향이 지식적인 앎을 위한 교육과 더불어 환경의 아름다움과 진정성에 대한 갈망과 동경심을 키울 수 있는 정의적인 측면이 강조되어야 한다는 것을 시사한다.

영어초록

The present study examined environmental sensitivity, which is an affective area that basesresponsible environmental behaviors. In order to cultivate environmental sensitivity, the present studydeveloped a program designed to be executed for 2 years (3 semesters), and applied it to anenvironmental extracurricular activity class.Based on the results of this study, environmental sensitivity can be summarized into two abililities.Affective-perspective-taking is an ability to consider and understand others’ situation or position first, andaesthetic understanding-appreciation-expression abilities are abilities to feel beauties and express thefeelings in a sensible way.The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, while doing the 1st semester activities relatedto students’ environmental sensitivity, students began to perceive plants, which had not been significantlymeaningful to them. Second, in the 2nd semester program related to animals, students began to attachmeanings to living organisms. Third, with the 3rd semester activities, when the children were asked aboutwhat they had seen and felt on their way to school, they began to make expressions not only on plants and animals but also on their surprise at bright sunshine in the morning, their thanks to clean air, theirinterest in the changing shape of clouds in the sky, etc.The program developed in this study led learners to see nature as a life and view and understand itwith their mind. In addition, it had positive effects on the students so that they could find the beauties ofthe environment. The results of this study imply that education in the environment, by the environmentand for the environment should cultivate environmental sensitivity, which is an ability to find changingbeauties in the environment itself and share such feelings.
