학령기 단순언어장애 아동의 반사실적 사고 능력 (Counterfactual Thinking in Schoolaged Children with Specific Language Impairment)

초록

연구목적: 사실과 반대되는 정보에 근거하여 추론하는 능력은 상대방의 의도를 파악하고 사건의 원인과 결과를 판단하는 데 도움을 주기 때문에 대화를 이해하는 데 도움이 된다. 본 연구는 학령기 단순언어장애 아동이 실제 일어난 사건의 원인과 결과에 상반되는 생각을 할 수 있는지 알아보기 위해 반사실적 사고 능력을조사하였다. 연구방법: 초등 2-3학년 단순언어장애 아동 17명, 동일언어연령의 일반 아동 17명, 동일생활연령의 일반 아동 17명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 반사실적 사고 과제는 선행 반사실 과제와 결과 반사실 과제로구성되었다. 선행 반사실 과제의 질문은 아동에게 결과를 바꿀 수 있는 대안을 추론하도록 지시하였고 결과반사실 과제의 질문은 선행 사건을 바꾸었을 때 달라진 결과를 추론하도록 하였다. 연구결과: 선행 반사실과제와 결과 반사실 과제 모두에서 단순언어장애 집단이 언어연령일치 집단 및 생활연령일치 집단에 비해 유의미하게 낮은 수행을 보였다. 선행 반사실 과제와 결과 반사실 과제 모두에서 생활연령일치 집단, 언어연령일치 집단, 단순언어장애 집단 순으로 높은 점수를 얻었다. 세 집단 모두에서 결과 반사실 과제 수행이 선행반사실 과제 수행보다 유의미하게 높았다. 반사실 사고 과제 수행에서 집단과 과제 유형 사이의 상호작용이통계적으로 유의미하였는데 이는 언어연령일치 집단에서 결과 반사실 과제와 선행 반사실 과제 수행 차이가다른 두 집단에 비해서 더 두드러진 데에 기인하는 것으로 보였다. 결론: 단순언어장애 아동은 발생한 사건의 반대 사실을 추론하여 사건의 대안을 찾는 데 어려움을 보였다. 이는 단순언어장애 아동들의 언어 사용에부정적인 영향을 미칠 것이다.

영어초록

Purpose: Reasoning ability based on counter-fact information helps to understand conversation because it aids in identifying the intentions of the other party and judging the cause and effect of events. In this study, the counterfactual thinking ability of school-aged children with SLI was investigated to determine whether they could think contrary to the cause and effect of the actual event. Method: Fifty-one children participated in this study: 17 children with SLI in the second to third grade of elementary school, 17 normal children in the same language age as the SLI children, and 17 normal children in the same chronologicalage as the SLI children. Counterfactual thinking tasks are composed of antecedent and consequent counterfactual tasks. The antecedent counterfactual task was to analogize the cause that could have brought the opposite result to an incident. The consequent counterfactual task was to conjecture a result by exploring the opposite cause of an incident. Results: In the antecedent and consequent counterfactual tasks, the SLI group showed significantly lower performance than the LA and CA groups. In both antecedent counterfactual tasks, the CA group obtained the highest scores, followed by the LA group, and the SLI group obtaining the lowest. In all three groups’ consequent counterfactual task performance was significantly higher than antecedent counterfactual task performance. The interaction between the groups and the task type was statistically significant, which is because the performance gap between the two tasks in the LA group was distinctively higher than in the other two groups. Conclusion: The SLI group showed significantly lower performance in counterfactual thinking than the LA and CA groups. In other words, SLI children have difficulty finding an alternative to the given incident by inferring the possible opposite side of the events. This seems to have had a negative impact on the pragmatic competence of children with SLI.
