페루 작가 마르띤 아단(Martín Adán)의 『골판지로 만든 집 La casa de cartón』(1928)은 성장소설(bildungsroman) 고유의 서사 유형과는 거리가 있는 만큼 성장소설로 간주하기는 어려우나 주체의 반성장 서사를 담아내는 구조적 실험을 감행한 만큼 비교, 대조를 통해 성장기 화자의 서사 형태를 분석할 필요가 있다. 이 소설은 십대 후반의 청소년이 집필한 글로, 성장 소설의 전형적 요소와는 차별화된 서사적 특징을 가진다. 즉 성장 과정으로서의 여정을 자서전적 필치로 전개하지 않고 다양한 자아를 등장시켜 부르주아지 중심의 관습화된 사회질서를 거부하며 주체성의 위기를 표현한다. 이는 도야 혹은 성숙을 통한 인격적 완성체를 지향하는 것이 전형적인 빌둥스로만인 반면 『골판지로 만든 집』에 등장하는 성장기 화자는 성숙을 거부하는 형태로 법과 도덕률에 따라 관습화된 사회질서를 거부하고 아방가르드적 주체의 모습을 견지하는 것으로 전개된다. 즉 이 소설은 아방가르드적 독법으로 읽은 성장소설의 패러디로 볼 수 있으며 새로운 소설의 형태를 제시한 의미 있는 작업으로 해석할 수 있다.

영어초록

『The Cardboard House La casa de cartón』, written by the Peruvian writer Martín Adán, is hard to be considered as a bildungsroman thanks to its narration distinct from the narrative type of the typical bildungsroman. Nevertheless, it seems necessary to analyze the narration form of the narrator in his growth phase in comparison with the bildungsroman as this novel launched a structural experiment of narrating the antigrowth of the subject. As is well known, distancing itself from the previous literary trends, the avant-garde movement focuses on elements that represent the vitality of the modern times in its immersion in creative art activities through new substances. The novel of Martín Adán captures the avant-garde landscape of the period and represents the avant-garde vitality symbolized by youth and dynamicity, but its narrator is distinct from the characters of the traditional bildungsroman where a character aspires toward building up one’s character through adolescent wanderings and inner maturity. While the bildungsroman, in general, describes the growth of the protagonist or the subject and the process of his inner maturity, 『the Cardboard House』contains narrative features distinguished from the typical elements of the bildungsroman. Through the multiplication of the ego, this novel represents the identity crisis, refusing the bourgeois-centered conventional social order and avoiding the autobiographical writing of describing the process of inner maturity. Unlike the bildungsroman aiming at the perfection of the personality through cultivation or maturity, the adolescent narrator of 『the Cardboard House』 refuses to grow up, rejects the conventional social order regulated by the law and order and maintains the avant-garde identity. In other words, this novel could be considered as a parody to the bildungsroman using an avant-garde way of reading and can be regarded as a significant work that proposes a new form of novel.
