綏嬪 朴氏 한글 冊文의 제작 배경과 특성 (Background and Characteristics of the Hangeul Investiture Letters Conferred on Lady Park, the Royal Consort of Tranquility)

초록

1823년(순조 23) 2월 綏嬪 朴氏의 葬禮 때 제작된 한글 諡冊文과 哀冊文을 중심으로 그 내용과 제작 배경을 살펴보고, 형태적 특징과 관련 기록 등을 통하여 해당 문헌의 용도를 구체적으로 규명하고자 하였다. 일반적으로 한글 책문은 국왕 및 비빈에게 올리는 內入件과 여성 집사에게 연습용으로 지급하는 肄習件 등으로 제작되는데, 현전하는 유빈 박씨 관련 한글 책문은 이습건에 해당된다. 시책문은 유빈 박씨에게 諡號 ‘顯穆’을 올리는 의의를 기록한 글이며, 애책문은 발인에 앞서 떠나보낼 때 지내는 제사에서 유빈 박씨의 공덕을 기리고 애도를 표하는 글이다. 모두 竹冊으로 제작되어 유빈 박씨의 靈座에 올리며, 상궁에 의해 낭독된다는 공통점이 있다. 이 때 상궁의 낭독을 돕기 위한 보조자료로서 한글 책문이 제작되었다.
한글 책문은 책문의 최종 書寫式을 반영한 冊文草圖書에 의거하여 제작되었다. 한문과 한글 양쪽에 능통한 남성 관원이 한자본과 한글본 두 종을 함께 제작하였는데, 먼저 한자본을 만들고 붉은색 온점으로 句讀點을 찍은 다음 이와 동일한 형태로 한글본을 만들었다. 그리고 한글본에는 검정색 빗점으로 구두점을 추가하여 끊어 읽는 글자의 간격을 좁혔다. 낭독용 대본으로서의 기능을 강화한 것이다. 완성된 한자 및 한글본 책문은 해당 의례를 집행하는 상궁에게 이습건으로 지급되었다. 상궁은 본 의식에서 죽책을 들고 낭독해야 했으므로, 한자본으로 한자를 눈에 익히는 한편 한글본으로 한자의 음가를 외우고 알맞게 끊어 읽는 연습을 했다. 시책문을 올리는 上諡殯宮儀는 2월 18일에 習儀를 행한 뒤 20일에 본 의례를 거행하였으며, 애책문을 올리는 遣奠儀는 18일에 發靷 1차 습의와 함께 예행연습을 한 뒤 26일에 본 의례를 거행하였다. 2월 18일 습의에서는 長松板으로 만든 假冊을 들고 의식을 진행해야 했으므로, 그 전까지 책문을 충분히 외우고 익혀야 했다. 그러므로 이습건으로 지급된 한글 책문은 상궁에게 매우 유용한 연습용 대본임에 틀림없다.

영어초록

By focusing on the hangeul editions of the investiture letter of posthumous title (諡冊文) and the memorial of lamentation (哀冊文) bestowed on Lady Park, Royal Consort of Tranquility (綏嬪朴氏), during her funerary rituals in February 1823 (23rd year of the reign of Sunjo), this paper investigates their contents and production background as well as examining their purpose through a review of their bibliographical characteristics and related records.
The investiture letter of posthumous title is a record that describes the meaning behind the conferment of the posthumous title "Brilliance and Moderateness" (顯穆) on Lady Park, whereas the memorial of lamentation is a document that expresses sorrow over her death and pays tribute to her good deeds during the sending-off ritual. The two documents were read aloud by a palace matron during the ritual of offering them to the numinous seat of Lady Park before her coffin was carried to the grave site.
In general, investiture letters were produced in hangeul for two purposes: as court document presented to the king, the queen, and royal consorts for their approval, and as practice material with which a designated court matron rehearsed reading the contents for the actual funerary rituals. Extant hangeul editions of the investiture letter and the memorial of lamentation concerning Lady Park belong to the latter category.
The procedure involved in producing and using these two documents is presumed to be as follows. First, drafts of the investiture letter and memorial of lamentation were written in classical Chinese and revised. Once the final drafts were approved by King Sunjo on February 8, a male official who was proficient in both classical Chinese and hangeul created the investiture letter and memorial of lamentation in classical Chinese and in hangeul as well. The classical Chinese editions were created first with markings of small red circles denoting punctuation. The hangeul editions were then produced in the same way but with additional punctuation marks in the form of black dots to indicate pause points for easier reading.
Once the production of the classical Chinese and hangeul editions were completed, they were given to the designated palace matron as practice material for the rituals. The classical Chinese editions were further produced into bamboo books, from which the palace matron had to read during the actual funerary rituals. To familiarize herself with the classical Chinese editions, she used the hangeul editions for memorizing the pronunciation of each Chinese character and for practicing to pause at proper intervals. This process reveals that the hangeul editions were produced to make them easier for a palace matron to read during funerary rituals, which strengthened their function as script for reading. Thus, the hangeul editionsgiven to the designated palace matron as practice material must have come in handy as rehearsal script.
