초록

‘조선풍’은 주체의 자각에 바탕하여 우리 것의 가치를 새롭게 인식하고 지금 여기에 실재하는 眞을 추구한 조선후기 문화현상이다. 당시 조선의 문인 학자들은 종래의 화이론에서 벗어나 자국에 대해 현실적 반성을 함으로써 오히려 긍정적 자신감을 회복하였다. 중국 문화를 미의 가치기준으로 삼는 세태에서 벗어나 자주적인 시각으로 조선을 바라보고, 자국문화의 가치를 재인식함으로써 문화주체의식을 획득하였다. 사실주의에 입각한 조선풍은 이전 예술사조와 비교할 때, 그 어느 시기보다도 主體的이면서 創新的이었다. 그리하여 18세기는 조선 문화의 절정기로 평가된다. ‘조선풍’은 ‘지금 – 조선’의 소재인식, 진솔한 정감의 표출, 개성 강조 등을 미학적 특징으로 하고 있다. 박제가는 ‘華夷一也’의 세계관을 수용하여 왜곡된 소중화주의에서 벗어났다. 그의 관심은 ‘선진 문명 수용’을 통한 자국의 발전이었다. 고정된 중화와 오랑캐의 구분을 넘어 오랑캐의 문물이라도 백성에게 이로우면 취해야 한다는 의미이다. 박제가는 이런 북학론의 당위성을 예술론으로 확산하였다. 박제가는 得眞的 심미관을 견지하면서 주변의 소재를 선택해서, 대상의 진실을 전달하려고 하였다. 이것은 眞은 눈앞에 實在하는 것이므로 ‘지금 – 조선’을 창작대상으로 해야 한다는 조선풍 심미의식과 맥을 같이 한다. 박제가는 창신과 개성을 매우 중시하였다. 서위⋅원굉도를 위시한 만명사조를 수용하여 그의 문학은 개성적이고 尖新한 성격을 띠게 된 것이다. 모방과 답습에 강한 거부감을 가지고 있어 꾸밈없이 진솔하게 창작주체의 眞情을 표출하고자 하였으며, 직접 보고 느낀 현재의 생생한 조선의 모습, 조선인의 정감을 예술에 담고자 하였다. 이같은 眞에 대한 절실한 욕구가 개성적인 奇로 표출되었으며, 創新的 예술창작의 근간이 되었다. 예술에서 尙古主義的 상투성을 거부하고 새로움을 추구하는 박제가의 창작정신은 ‘조선풍’의 미학적 지향이기도 하다.

'Joseon-esque style' was a cultural phenomenon of late Joseon dynasty, that newly recognized the value of our culture based on subjective awareness. At that time, the scholars of Joseon recovered their positive self-esteem by refraining from conventional thought of China and the others and reflecting on their country realistically. It made the people break from the point of making Chinese culture as the value criterion of beauty, and they gained the subjective cultural consciousness by looking at Joseon from an independent perspective and recognizing the value of its own culture.
Park Jega accepted the world view that 'China and the other countries had the same value' and got rid of the distorted thought of small Sinocentrism. His interest was the development of his country through 'accepting advanced civilizations'. It meant that even the cultures from the other countries other than China should be accepted if they were advantageous to the people irrespective of the fixed distinction between China and the others. Park Jega has extended the appropriateness of the theory of northern study to art theory.
The 18th century was the peak of the culture, and Joseon-esque style based on realism was more subjective and innovative than any other art trends or periods. The aesthetic characteristics of 'Joseon-esque style' included the recognition of the value of 'now-Joseon', the expression of genuine emotion, and the emphasis on individuality.
Park Jega tried to convey the truth of the object by choosing the material around him while maintaining the aesthetic perspective of attaining the genuineness. It was in line with the aesthetic consciousness of Joseon-esque style that now-Joseon should be the object of creation because the genuineness existed in front of the eyes.
Park Jega placed great emphasis on innovation and individuality, and his literary character has become novel due to the influence of the trend of late Ming dynasty commencing with XuWei and YuanHongDao. Since he intended to express the genuine emotion of the creating subject, he strongly objected to the imitation process and tried to contain the present vivid image of Joseon and the emotion of the people into art. His earnest desire for the genuineness has been expressed as an individual abnormality, and it has become the basis of innovative artistic creation, which was an aesthetic orientation of 'Joseon-esque style'.
