밀레니얼 세대 초등교사의 부장교사 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구: 전라남도 지역을 중심으로 (A Phenomenological Study on the Work Experiences of Millennial Teachers as a Department Head in Elementary Schools at Jeollanam-do, South Korea)

초록

연구목적: 이 연구는 밀레니얼 세대 초등학교 교사들의 부장교사 보직 경험이 어떠하였으며, 부장 경험이 이들의 교직 생애에 어떤 의미를 지니는지 알아보고자 하였다.
연구방법: 6명의 연구 참여자를 대상으로 개인의 내적 경험을 깊이 있게 이해하기 위한 심층 인터뷰를 실시하여 자료를 수집하였으며, Giorgi의 현상학적 연구 방법을 적용하여 자료를 분석하였다.
연구결과: 밀레니얼 세대 초등교사의 부장교사 경험은 6개의 대주제(다양한 이유로 부장을 맡음, 중간리더 역할을 수행함, 과중한 업무에 시달림, 부정적 감정을 경험함, 긍정적 감정을 경험함, 실익과 기회가 주어짐)와 15개의 소주제, 44개의 핵심 의미단위가 도출되었다. 밀레니얼 세대 초등 부장교사 경험이 갖는 의미로는 3개의 대주제(교직에서 성장함, 개인 내적으로 성장함, 부장교사 제도와 교직 문화 개선을 제안함), 9개의 소주제, 24개의 핵심 의미단위가 도출되었다.
학술적 기여: 밀레니얼 세대의 부장교사 경험이 교사 개인과 학교 조직 모두에 도움이 될 수 있도록 부장교사를 맡는 밀레니얼 세대 교사들을 위한 제도적, 행정적 지원뿐만 아니라 심리적 지원을 포함한 다양한 방안을 마련하기 위한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the working experiences of millennial teachers as a department head in elementary schools and investigate the meaning of experiences for their careers. Data were collected by conducting in-depth individual interviews with six participants. Data were analyzed by using Giorgio’s phenomenological method. As a result, the millennial generation elementary school teachers' experiences as a department head are divided that 15 clusters and 44 main meaning units were derived and 6 essential themes were identified as follows: “taking on the role of a department head for a variety of reasons”, “taking the role of a middle leader”,“Suffering from heavy workload”, “experiencing negative emotions”, “experiencing positive emotions”, and “benefiting from rewards”. As for the meaning of the millennial generation elementary school teacher as a department head experience, three essential themes:“growth in the teaching profession”, “personal growth”, and “proposing various opinions about the department head teacher system and teaching culture”, 9 sub-themes, and 24 core units of meaning were derived. In summary, participants initially took on the role for various reasons and they faced challenges including suffering from negative emotions and heavy workloads. However, they also experienced positive emotions, and received positive evaluations and beneficial opportunities. Through these experiences, millennial teachers as a department head have promoted growth and development in the teaching profession and have grown internally as well. Based on this growth, they suggested how to improve the department head teacher system and teaching culture based on their own experiences. In conclusion, the results of this study have implications for promoting professional development, and fostering personal growth, emotional and social well-being among millennial teachers as a department head.
