외국인 유학생과 새터민 대학생의 학습력 향상을 위한 학습코칭 프로그램 설계 및 효과 (Design and Effect of Learning Coaching Program for Improving Learning Capabilities of Foreign Students and North Korean Defector university Students)

초록

본 연구는 외국인 유학생과 새터민 대학생의 학습력을 향상시키기 위해 학습지원 프로그램을 설계하여 그들이 밝은 미래를 함께 열어갈 수 있도록 지원하고 지지해 주는데 목적이 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 외국인 유학생과 새터민 대학생의 학습상황을 파악하고, 이들에게 필요한 학습코칭 프로그램을 설계하였다.
프로그램은 교육학 박사학위 소지자 3인의 문헌연구를 기반으로 외국인 유학생과 새터민 대학생을 포함한 다문화 학습자의 특성에 적합한 학습코칭 진행 방향을 전략적으로 설계하였다.
본 프로그램은 과제 특수적이고 특별한 지식 및 능력과 관련되어 있는 목표설정, 시간관리, 주의집중 등을 포함한 미시적 전략(micro-strategy)과 보다 광범위한 것으로 정보처리활동으로서의 인지전략 이외에 학습자의 감정 상태를 관리하는 정의적 전략으로써 동기화 수준을 유지하는 동기화 전략, 학습상태를 유지하려는 전략 등 넓은 의미의 학습전략을 포함하는 거시적 전략(macro-strategy)으로 구분하여 설계하였다. 이 과정에서 각각 개별화된 프로그램 내용을 도출하고 이를 실제로 외국인 유학생과 새터민 대학생에게 실시한 후 인터뷰를 통해 프로그램의 효과를 살펴보았다.
그동안 대학에서는 외국인 유학생과 새터민 대학생을 소수학습자로 분류하고 사회·문화적 적응에 초점을 맞춰 연구하고 지원했다면 본 연구는 그들의 학습과 연결하여 학습코칭이라는 새로운 시도를 했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며 향후 학습과정에서 어려움을 경험하고 있는 외국인, 새터민, 국제이주노동자 등 다문화 학습자들의 대학생활 적응 및 학습과정 지원방안 수립에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 또한 학습코칭 프로그램을 설계 및 개발하여 운영한 사례를 소개하고 그 결과를 공유함으로써 대학 간 환류효과를 기대할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

영어초록

The purpose of this research is to aid and support foreign students and North Korean defector students to open their bright future together by designing a learning support program to improve their learning. To achieve this goal, we have examined the life and the learning situation of foreign students and North Korean defector students and designed a learning coaching program they needed.
Based on the literature review, three (3) researchers with a Ph. D. degree in education strategically designed the direction of learning coaching according to the characteristics of multicultural learners, including foreign students and North Korean defector students. The program was designed in two parts, a micro-strategy and a macro-strategy. The micro-strategy includes goal setting and attention concentration that are task-specific and related to special knowledge and ability. The macro-strategy includes an affective strategy that manages the emotional state of learners, a motivational strategy that maintains the level of motivation, and a learning strategy that maintains the learning state in a broader sense in addition to a cognitive strategy as the broader information processing activity. In this process, individualized program contents were derived, and this was actually conducted by foreign students and North Korean defector university students.
Up until now, existing studies placed their focus on social and cultural adaptation of foreign students and North Korean defector students who are classified in colleges as minority learners. In contrast, this research has significance in that it made a new attempt of learning coaching in relation to their learning. And in the future, it is expected that this program will contribute to the establishment of a support plan for adaptation to college life and learning process of multicultural learners who are experiencing difficulties such as foreigners, North Korean defectors, and international migrant workers. Besides, it seems possible to expect washback effects between universities by introducing the examples of design, development, and operation of the learning coaching program and sharing their results.
