북극해 연안 소수 원주민의 치아인류학 특징 (The Dental Anthropological Characteristics of Minority Natives in the Arctic Coast)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 북극해 연안 소수 원주민의 치아 자료를 토대로 치아인류학 특징을 조사하는 데 있다. 연구대상 집단은 네네츠(Nenets), 코미(Komi), 에스키모(Eskimo), 알레우트(Aleut), 야쿠트(Yakut), 축치(Chukchi)이다.
치아는 높은 화학적 보존성을 바탕으로 고고학 유적과 화석인류에 가장 많이 남아 있는 자료이다. 생물인류학자들은 죽은 자료뿐만 아니라 살아있는 사람들을 연구하며, 이를 위해 거울을 사용해 자신의 치아를 살펴보기도 한다. 사람의 치아는 선천적인 유전적 특성과 함께 식생활과 관련된 문화적 상태가 반영되어 치아 형태의 변화 자체가 문화의 진화 상태를 간접적으로 이해할 수 있는 유용한 자료가 된다. 그러므로 사람치아의 형태학적 특징은 유전적 또는 환경적 영향에 따라 다양하게 나타날 수 있으며 이러한 특성은 특정 종족집단의 체질인류학적 특성을 나타내는 지표로 사용할 수 있다. 따라서 특정 종족집단의 이동 경로를 추정하거나 종족집단 간의 관계를 밝히기 위한 생물인류학과 같은 관련 연구에 중요한 정보로 활용된다.
북극해 연안 소수 원주민 집단의 치아에 나타나는 몽골로이드의 중요한 체질인류학적 지표인 삽모양앞니(shovel-shaped teeth)의 출현율은 알레우트가 가장 높았다. 반면 유럽인의 지표 특징인 카라벨리결절(Carabelli’s cusp)은 코미집단에서 가장 높게 나타났다. 아래턱어금니 먼쪽 세도드리부 융기(distal trigonid crest) 및 아래턱어금니 혀쪽 앞도드리의 마디 있는 주름(deflecting wringle)의 빈도는 러시아 극동지역 종족집단에 비해 낮은 출현율을 보여 종족집단간의 차이를 반영하는 것임을 알 수 있다. 이번 연구를 통해 북극해 소수 원주민 집단 중 알레우트, 에스키모 집단이 네네츠, 코미, 야쿠트 집단보다는 좀 더 한국인의 치아인류학 특성과 관련성이 높게 나타났다.
북극해 연안 소수 원주민 집단의 문화는 동아시아의 다원적 문화구조의 주요한 토대를 이루고 있다. 이런 연구를 통해 큰 틀에서의 북극해 환경보호에 기여 할 수 있으리라 기대한다. 그러나 한국인의 형성문제를 논의하기 위해서는 좀 더 자료가 축적되고 융복합연구가 꾸준히 진행될 때에만 더 확실한 해답을 얻을 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영어초록

The objective of this study is to research the dental anthropological characteristics based on the dental data of minority natives in the Arctic coast. The research subject groups include the Nenets, Komi, Eskimo, Aleut, Yakut, and Chukchi.
Based on the high chemical preservability, the teeth are the most-remained data in the archeological ruins and fossil men. The biological anthropologists research not only dead materials, but also living people. For this, they even examine their own teeth with the use of mirror. As the human teeth reflect the innate genetic characteristics and also the cultural state related to dietary life, the changes in tooth shape become a useful data for indirectly understanding the evolutionary state of culture. Therefore, the morphological characteristics of human teeth could be diversely shown in accordance with the genetic or environmental influence, and these characteristics could be used as an index showing the physical anthropological characteristics of a specific ethnic group. Thus, they are used as an important data for the researches related to the biological anthropology for estimating the moving paths of a specific ethnic group or revealing the relationship between ethnic groups.
The appearance ratio of the shovel-shaped teeth as an important physical anthropological index of Mongoloid, shown in the teeth of minority native groups in the Arctic coast, was the highest in the Aleut. On the other hand, the Carabelli’s cusp as the characteristic index of Europeans was the highest in the Komi. The frequency of the distal trigonid crest and the deflecting wringle was lower than the ethnic group in the far east of Russia, which showed the reflection of differences between ethnic groups. In the results of this study, out of the minority native groups in the Arctic coast, the Aleut and Eskimo showed the higher relation with the dental anthropological characteristics of Korean people, than the Nenets, Komi, and Yakut.
The culture of the minority native groups in the Arctic coast is the essential foundation of pluralistic cultural structure of East Asia. This study is expected to contribute to the environmental protection of the Arctic Ocean. However, in order to discuss the formation of Korean people, there should be more continuous convergence researches for the accumulation of data to get more definite answers.
