초록

Gwanggaeto monument was erected under the order of King Jangsu, who is the sun of King Gwanggaeto to the memory of his father in the year of BC414. The monument is situated at ‘Guknae-sung(capital of Koguryo kingdom)’ at that time. Contents of inscription indicated the national goals, spirits, and holistic philosophy of the kingdom. It was considered as a declaration to express the kingdom itself to all east asia countries and the whole world. It also implied expects of Koguryo people to their future generation. Monument was considered as an significant architectural aesthetics. Its form, structure, surroundings incarnated the special sense of ancestor worship and ethical content of founding myths.The monument also showed aesthetic values of glory, gravity, high virtue, and lofty. From the meaning viewpoint, monument represented identity, mentality of descendant from heaven, history inheritance of Proto-Chosun and Buyeo, unity, coexistence, and mechanical effects of Koguryo. The monument also reflected the logics of central belief, Life abidance, unity, and God worship. The foundation, morphology, colors, fonts of Gwanggaeto monument were irregularly, naturally, rustically made, Which implies constitute ethics meanings beyond description. Gwanggaeto monument is a Charter and memorial inherited by Koguryo people and Chosun community ancestors to both asia people at that time and their generations in the future.
