식민지시기 한문문장가 계보의 일단 －卞榮晩 편 『五家文抄』를 중심으로－ (A Study on a Group of Chinese Writers during the Colonial Period)

초록

식민지근대 문명이 내면화되면서 한학과 한문학은 타자화되었다. 따라서 이 시기에 창작된 한시, 한문문장은 여전히 문학사와 연구자의 사각지대에 머물러 있는 형편이다. 그러나 식민지근대 내부에서 여전히 자기의 생존공간을 지닌 채 활발히 한문문장을 산출하는 문사가 존재했다. 이 논문은 1920년대 후반 무렵 편집된 五家文抄 라는 선집을 발굴 소개하고 그 특징적 면모를 기술한 것이다. 이 선집의 가장 큰 특징은 편자 변영만의 문장 취향을 私的인 층위에서 계보화한 것이라고 할 수 있다. 그 결과 변영만의 스승 이남규의 節義的 성향의 산문이 다수 선발되고, 편자 자신의 문장과 후배 성순영의 글이 중심적으로 편제되었다. 金澤榮의 麗韓九家文抄 가 고려･조선의 왕조 시대를 통관하는 一國的 층위의 체계적 문장 선집이라면, 오가문초 는 근대적 규범이 내면화되는 시기에 출현한 개인 취향의 문장 선집이라는 성격을 지녔다. 오가문초 에 실린 문장들은 모두 식민지근대 문명을 비판하거나 보이콧의 자세를 견지한 인물의 글이라는 점에서, 이 선집은 이 시기 한문문장가의 근대 대응의 면모를 보여준다. 특히 가장 많은 편수가 실린 변영만의 글은 한문문장가의 근대 대응 양상을 여실히 보여준다. 그는 墨子를 새롭게 해석함으로서 儒家의 아비투스를 해체하려 하였고, <共産論>이라는 글을 통해 共生的 사회에 대한 성찰을 시도하였다. 또한 <勿協說> <書感示友>와 같은 문장으로 근대를 비판하고 새로운 문명 대안을 모색하기도 하였다. 요컨대 오가문초 는 지조와 절의의 자세를 부각시키고 근대 문명을 비판적으로 성찰했다는 점에서 식민지 시기 한문문장 선집으로서의 뚜렷한 정체성과 의의를 지녔다.

영어초록

With the internalization of the colonial modern civilization, Chinese classics and Chinese literature were otherized. As a result, Chinese poems and texts created during that period still remain in the outside of literature history and researchers’ interest. Even in the modern times under the colonial rule, however, there were writers who maintained their own space of survival and creating Chinese texts. This study purposed to explore and introduce an anthology entitled Ogamuncho compiled around the late 1920s and to describe its characteristics. When and who compiled Ogamuncho are unknown, but it is believed to have been compiled by Byeon Yeong‐man (1889∼1954) in the late 1920s. This collection includes 60 Chinese writings by Lee Nam‐gyu (1855∼1907), Lee Yeon‐gyu (1882∼1949), Byeon Yeong‐man, Cho Geung‐seop (1873∼1933), and Seong Soon‐yeong (1896∼1970). The biggest characteristic of this anthology is the genealogy of compiler Byeon Yeong‐man’s writing style built based on his personal lineage. As a result, many of works in the collection are from Byeon Yeong‐man’s teacher Lee Namgyu, and a large portion are also the writings of his and his student Seong Soonyeong. If Kim Taek‐yeong’s Yeohangugamuncho is a systematic literary anthology of national lineage penetrating through the dynasties of Koryo and Chosun, Ogamuncho is a writing collection reflecting personal tastes that emerged during the period when modern norms were being internalized. All the writers included in Ogamuncho assumed the position of criticizing or boycotting the colonial modern civilization, and in this sense, the anthology shows an aspect of how Chinese writers in those days responded to modernism. In particular, Byeon Yeong‐man’s writings, which are largest in number, demonstrate clearly the pattern of Chinese writers’ coping with modernism. He dismantled Confucian habitus by interpreting Micius in a new way, and attempted reflection on symbiotic society through a writing entitled Gongsanron. What is more, he criticized modernism and looked for new alternative civilization through articles such as Mulhyeopseol and Seogamsiu. In brief, Ogamuncho has a distinct identity and meaning as a Chinese writing anthology during the colonial period in that it emphasized the attitude of fidelity and constancy and reflected on modern civilization critically.
