초록

Kim Seok-mun was a scholar who established a new theory of astronomy during the Joseon Dynasty through the creative fusion of traditional studies and the latest Western astronomy. Not only did he rewrite astronomy by writing this book, but he also pioneered I-ching-fortune-telling. This novelty about astronomy and I-ching-fortune-telling is the result of his ‘academic boldness’. This article analyzes the new fortune-telling method invented by Kim Seok-moon. His fortune-telling method starts with his rather unconventional claim of “a number of Dae-yeon(大衍數) 100,” denying the “a number of Dae-yeon 50,” which has been a popular theory for thousands of years. It is said that the use of 49 sicho(蓍草) from 100 sicho(蓍草) is the law of hucheonsicho(後天蓍草法:current), and the use of 48 sicho(蓍草) is called the law of seoncheonsicho(先天蓍草法). The method of using all 100 sicho(蓍草) was called the law of Dae-yeon(大衍法). The process of divination of law of Dae-yeon(大衍法) is different from that of the predecessor. As for the current method, the three-sided(3變) 1-hyo(1爻) and 18-sided(18變) six-hyo(6爻) are performed, but the law of Dae-yeon(大衍法) goes through two- sided(2變) 1-hyo(爻) and 12-sided(12變) to make 6-hyo(6爻). It is said that the law of Dae-yeon(大衍法) is applied to small branches.
The probability of occurrence of the divination(占筮法) of Sasang(四象) is the most uneven, and the congenital and conjunctive methods are equal. The probability of each the divination(占筮法) of Sasang(四象)'s occurrence of thought is the most uneven in the law of hucheonsicho(後天蓍草法:current), and the law of seoncheonsicho(先天蓍草法) and the law of Dae-yeon(大衍法) are equal. This is a game rule issue. Reasonable and balanced, he needed a new law of divination(占筮法).
Overall, Kim Seok-moon’s method of divination is a new method of divination that adds “objective rationality” made by his “balance sense” and “sharpness” beyond the times. Kim Seok-moon wanted to develop a fortune-telling method with a sense of mission and renew the Yook Hyo-jeom(六爻占) of Napgap(納甲), which was popular at the time. You can find traces of Song Dynasty’s Xiàng shù yì xué(宋代 象數易) in the process of creating Kim Seok-mun’s fortune-telling method.
