헤겔철학에 나타난 존재와 무 (Being and Nothing in Hegel's Philosophy)

초록

반-주체 철학을 주창하는 현대 철학의 흐름 속에서 헤겔철학은 흥미롭게도 매우 상반된 관점에서 해석되어 왔다. 헤겔의 ‘절대 주체성’ 개념을 통해 헤겔철학은 한편에서 해체되어야 할 근대적 동일성 철학 혹은 근대의 폐쇄적 체계의 원형으로 해석된다. 그러나 또 다른 한편에서 헤겔철학은 ‘절대 부정성’ 개념을 통해 현대 철학에서 본질적으로 추구되는 차이의 철학을 가능케 하는 철학으로 강조되기도 한다.
우리는 이러한 상반된 해석에 직면하여 먼저 헤겔철학의 어떠한 구조와 측면이 이러한 상반된 이해를 가능케 하는지를 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 해명하기 위해 우리는 헤겔철학의 본질적 측면을 이루는 존재와 무의 개념을 살펴보고자 한다. 헤겔에게서 존재와 무의 개념은 크게 두 가지 방식으로 다루어 질 수 있는데, 하나는 형이상학적 접근이고 다른 하나는 인간학적인 접근이다. 따라서 이 글에서는 이 두 접근을 통해 헤겔철학의 양면성을 해명하고자 한다.
헤겔에게서 존재는 동일성 개념이고 무는 차이성의 개념이다. 그런데 자기 자신과의 절대적 동일성으로 이해되는 순수한 존재 개념은 다름 아닌 순수 무이다. 순수 존재와 순수 무은 무규정성이라는 관점에서 동일하며 이 동일성 또는 이 둘의 통일성은 ‘생성’으로 이해된다. 그렇기 때문에 헤겔에게서 직접적이고 즉자적인 존재 개념은 생성과 운동을 내재적으로 포함한다. 다시 말해 헤겔의 동일성 개념은 부정성과 같이 간다.
이러한 존재와 무에 대한 형이상학적 설명은 인간학적인 설명 속에서 재발견된다. 인간은 자연적으로 주어진 소질을 갖고 있는 즉자적인 존재이다. 그러나 다른 한편에서 인간은 주어진 자연성을 부정하고 이로부터 벗어나서 자기 자신을 창조해 나가는 대자적이고 자유로운 존재이다. 다시 말해 즉자적인 인간존재에 있어서 부정성과 자유는 본질로 자리 잡고 있다. 이처럼 헤겔에게서 존재와 무, 즉자와 대자, 자연적 존재와 자유는 본질적으로 같은 것의 두 측면을 말해주고 있으며, 헤겔철학은 바로 이 양면성을 통해서만 설명될 수 있다. 이러한 양면성이 헤겔철학을 다양하고 상반된 해석으로 이끈다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

In the contemporary philosophical movements that emphasize the philosophy of anti-hegelianism, it is interesting to note that the philosophy of Hegel has been interpreted in the contrary way. On the one hand, by highlighting the concept of the Absolute Subjectivity the philosophy of Hegel is understood as the philosophy of identity or as the prototype of the closed philosophical system. But on the other hand, with the concept of the "Absolute Negativity," one argues that the philosophy of Hegel essentially coincides with the contemporary philosophy that pursues the philosophy of difference.
Facing these contrary interpretations, we first want to investigate the structure of Hegel's philosophy, which makes possible these contrary understandings. In order to clarify these two opposed interpretations, we will examine the concept of Being and Nothing which constitute the essential aspects of Hegel's philosophy. According to Hegel, there are two ways, namely, metaphysical approach and anthropological approach, to clarify the concept of Being and Nothing. Hence in this paper, by clarifying these two approaches, we seek to elucidate the double-aspects in the philosophy of Hegel.
For Hegel, while Being refers to the concept of identity, nothing signifies the concept of difference. However, the concept of pure Being that relates to itself in terms of absolute identity is nothing other than pure Nothing. From the perspective of the indeterminateness, pure Being and Nothing are identical, and this unity of Being and Nothing is understood as 'Becoming'. So in the philosophy of Hegel, the concept of Being that is immediately given comprises the 'movement' and 'becoming.'
This metaphysical understanding of Being and Nothing is rediscovered in the anthropological explanation of man. Man finds her/himself in nature, and he is defined as 'in itself.' But on the other hand man has a power to negate nature, so that he can become a 'for-in-itself' that is free by creating one's own self. In other words, man defined as a 'for-in-itself' is essentially constituted in negation and freedom. So in the philosophy of Hegel Being and Nothing, 'in-itself' and 'for-in-itself' and the natural being and freedom discloses the double aspects of the same state of affair. Here one can see that the philosophy of Hegel can be explained by the double aspect of Being and Nothing which leads to the contrary interpretation on his thoughts.
