유아교육의 영역과 교과목 표기방식에 대한 대안적 검토 (Discussion on the Designation Patterns of Domains and Subjects in Early Childhood Education)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 유아교육의 정체성 확립을 위한 한 일환으로 유아교육의 영역 및 교과목 표기방식 현황을 알아보고 합당한 표기방식을 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 국립중앙도서관 전자도서를 활용하여 2000년∼2012년까지 출판된 유아교육관련 도서 3,076권의 목록을 수집한 후, 이들의 도서 제목(부제목 포함)을 16개 유아교육 영역 및 교과교육 영역에 일대일로 대응시켜 이에 합치하는 도서 548권을 수집하였다. 이 도서들의 제목 표기방식을 분석한 연구결과, 유아교육의 고유영역은 ‘유아교육’을 수식어로 하고 ‘고유영역용어’를 한정어로 하는 표기방식을 취하고 있었고, 유아교육의 교과교육 영역은 ‘유아교육’을 수식어로 하여 ‘타학문의 핵심용어’를 한정어로 하는 표기방식을 취하고 있었다. 그리고 유아교육의 교과목 표기방식은 교과목 마다 상이한 표기방식을 사용하고 있었다. 이러한 표기방식에 대해 본고는 유아교육의 학문적 논리 구조 측면에서 합당한 용어 표기방식을 검토하여 그 대안을 다음과 같이 제시하였다. 첫째, 유아교육의 영역 중 내용과 연구방법이 타학문으로 환원할 수 없는 고유영역은 ‘유아교육’을 수식어로 ‘고유영역용어’를 한정어로 하는 기존의 표기방식이 적합하다. 둘째, 유아교육의 교과영역은 유아교육의 본질적 관점에서 내용과 방법이 논의되고 분화되어야 한다는 측면에서 ‘타학문의 핵심용어’를 수식어로 하여 ‘유아교육’을 한정어로 하는 표기방식을 제시한다. 셋째, 유아교육의 교과목은 ‘유아’와 ‘교육’이라는 두 단어를 하나의 개념 군으로 묶어야 유아라는 개념뿐만 아니라 교육이라는 개념도 강조되기 때문에 ‘유아교육’이라는 표기방식을 제시한다. 넷째, 유아교육의 방법론에 해당하는 교과목은 유아교육에서 교수와 학습은 동시에 발생한다는 측면에서 교수와 학습사이에 ‘ㆍ’삽입하여 ‘유아교육교수․학습방법’이라는 표기방식을 제시한다. 다섯째, 유아교육의 연구방법론에 해당하는 교과목은 연구의 대상이 유아와 유아교육의 전반을 포괄한다는 측면에서 ‘유아교육연구방법’이라는 표기방식을 제시한다. 여섯째, 특수유아의 교육을 논하는 교과목은 유아교육이라는 관점에서 특수교육의 대상인 유아에 접근해야 한다는 측면에서 ‘특수유아교육’이라는 표기방식을 제시한다. 본 연구를 계기로 유아교육의 정체성 확립을 위한 구체적인 연구가 지속되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the designation pattern of the domains and subjects of early childhood education and suggest the right designation pattern for this field in an effort to help build the academic identity of early childhood education. A list of 3,076 books related to early childhood education that were published between 2000 and 2012 was selected from among the e-books of the National Library of Korea, and the designation pattern of the domains and subjects of early childhood education were analyzed.
And it's found that as for the innate domain and subjects of early childhood education, the word early childhood education was used as a modifier, and the core terms of the innate domain or of other disciplines were utilized as determiners. Given this naming pattern, there are some suggestions about this matter: First,regarding the innate domain of early childhood education, early childhood education should be used as a modifier, and the innate domain should be used as a determiner. Second, concerning academic education of early childhood education, 'the core terms of other disciplines' should be employed as modifiers, and 'early childhood education' should be used as a determiner. Third, the word 'early childhood education'should be used in that this word incorporates two different words 'early childhood' and 'education' in a single term. The subjects that belong to the methodology of early childhood education should be titled as the teaching-learning methods of early childhood education in that early childhood education is actualized through interaction between the subject and the object of early childhood education. The subjects that belonged to the research methodology of early childhood education should be titled as the research methods of early childhood education. The subjects that belong to education for preschoolers with special needs should be titled as special early childhood education. In conclusion, building the identity of early childhood education through the logical designation of the domains and subjects of early childhood education is expected to lay the solid foundation for the improvement of the academic standing of early childhood education.
