초록

This study was carried out in order to investigate the effect of sorption behavior of pre-coated layer on the mottle index of top-coated layer and final printability. The coated paper with five different pigments and four different latices were prepared. The sorption behavior of pre- and top-coated paper was elucidated with using PEA (print evenness analyzer).
The pigment properties and Tg of binder in pre-coating layer were the important factors to control the sorption property of pre-coated layer. Properties of pre-coated layer was affected to top-coated layer. The water adsorption was controlled with replacing pigment and binder. Application of smaller pigments and binder of lower Tg brought about the lowest and uniform water sorption property. There were positive correlation between the absorption ability of pre-coated layer and the mottle index of top-coated layer. These results indicate that final printability and properties of top-coated layer can be improved by replacing the pigment and binder with smaller pigments and low Tg binder to the pre-coated layer.
