모의 양육행동이 아동의 양육행동 지각, 학업적 자기효능감 및 학업성취도에 미치는 효과 분석: 자기조절동기의 매개효과를 중심으로 (Effects of Mother’s Parenting Style on Their Children’s Perception of Their Mothers’ Parenting Behaviors, Academic Self-Efficacy, and Achievement: Mediating Role of Children’s Autonomous Motivation)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 모가 보고한 양육행동(조건부 관심철회, 조건부 관심강화, 자율성 지지)이 이에 대한 아동의 지각에 영향을 미치는가와 이러한 지각이 아동의 자기조절동기를 통해 학업적 자기효능감이나 학업성취도에 영향을 주는가를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 연구변수들 간의 구조적 관계를 확인하기 위하여 초등학교 4, 5, 6학년 453명의 자료가 수집되었다. 연구결과 모가 보고한 양육행동은 이에 대한 아동의 지각과 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났으나, 그 수치가 크지 않아 모의 자기 보고와 아동의 지각 간에는 어느 정도의 괴리가 있는 것을 보여주었다. 또한 모의 양육행동에 대한 지각은 아동의 자기조절동기(조건부 관심철회→무동기, 조건부 관심강화→통제적 동기, 자율성 지지→자율적 동기)에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 이론에서 제시하고 있는 바가 확인되었다. 모의 양육행동 중 조건부 관심(조건부 관심철회, 조건부 관심강화)은 아동의 자기조절동기를 통해 학업적 자기효능감이나 학업성취도에 부정적인 영향을, 모의 양육행동 중 자율성 지지는 아동의 자기조절동기를 통해 학업적 자기효능감이나 학업성취도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 아동들의 사회화를 위해 흔히 사용되는 조건부 관심이라는 행동주의적 양육행동과 자기결정성이론에서 강조하는 자율성 지지적 양육행동이 아동들의 자기조절동기, 자기효능감, 학업성취도에 미치는 영향을 비교 논의하였다.

영어초록

In this study, we examined whether the children’s perception of their mothers’ autonomy support and conditional positive and negative regards would be influenced by their mothers’ reported autonomy support and conditional regards, which in turn would influence children’s academic self-efficacy and achievement. Furthermore, we examined the mediating effect of children’s autonomous motivation on both self-efficacy and achievement. In this study, we analyzed data from 453 mothers and their children of elementary 4th through 6th graders in Korea. Mothers responded to three scales, i. e., parental autonomy support, conditional positive regard, and negative regard scales; children responded to five scales, i. e., perceived mother’s autonomy support, conditional positive and negative regards, autonomous motivation, and academic self-efficacy scales. Children’s academic achievement data were also collected from their home room teachers. The results revealed that there were gaps between mothers' self-reports on their behavior and the children's perception of their mothers' behavior. The results also revealed that mothers’ autonomy support and conditional regards influenced their children’s perception of their mothers’ behaviors which in turn influenced their corresponding types of motivation. The influences of children's motivation types then mediated the effects of children’s perception of their mothers’ behavior on academic self-efficacy and achievement. However, children's amotivation did not have significant effects on academic self-efficacy. The results were discussed in relations to the self-determination theory and the findings from Assor, Roth, and their colleague’s research on parental conditional regard.
