기호학적 관점에서의 모바일 형태와 인터페이스 디자인에 관한 연구 (Research on Mobile Phone Modeling and Interface Design from a Semiotic Perspective)

초록

1973년 미국 모토로라 엔지니어인 마틴 쿠퍼(Martin Cooper)가 세계 최초의 상용화 모바일을 개발한후부터 모바일은 단순한 기능만을 가진 통신기기에서 통신, SNS, 사진촬영, 오락, 학습 등 다양한 기능을 담은 멀티미디어 개인 단말기로 발전하였다. 인터넷 기술이 발전하면서 모바일 디자인은 간소화와 큰 사이즈의 스크린을 추구하는 추세를 보이고 있으며 모바일 디자인은 점점 단순화되고 있다. 그러나 소비자는 개성과 차별성에 대한 요구가 점차 커지고 있는 상황이다. 본 연구는 기호학 이론을 바탕으로 우수한 제품의 기호 디자인 사례를 모바일 디자인에 접목하는데 목적을 두었다. 본 연구는 기호학 중에 디자인 기호학을 연구이론으로 삼아 연구를 진행하여 모바일 형태와 인터페이스 디자인에서 기호의 구성 방식, 전달 방식, 표현 방식, 기호의 추출 방법 등 측면에서 분석하였다. 분해 분석 방법을 이용하여 모바일 형태와 인터페이스를 단위 기호로 분해하였다. 형태와 인터페이스 기호들에 담고 있는 내적인 의미와 외적인 의미를 분석하여 정보 전달 과정을 살펴보았다. 구체적인 상품을 사례로 삼아 사례 분석을 이용하여 시장에 출시된 대표적인 모바일 상품을 분석하여 내적인 의미와 외적인 의미에 따른 디자인의 특징을 도출하였다. 그리고 소비 시장 변화에 따른 모바일 형태 디자인 기호의 변화, 기술 발전에 따른 모바일 인터페이스 디자인에서의 기호 표현, 모바일 디자인에 있어 기호의추출 세 가지 측면에서 연구를 진행하였다. 이에 기호학적 관점에서 모바일 디자인에 존재하는 문제점과 모바일 디자인에 대한 시사점을 도출하였다.

영어초록

Since the invention of the world’s first commercial mobile phone by Motorola engineer Martin Cooper in 1973, the mobile phone has developed from a single-function communication device into a multimedia personal terminal, which integrates communication, social networking, photography, entertainment, learning and other functions. With the advancement of network technology, the development of mobile phone design has been trapped in a vicious cycle: blindly pursuing minimalism and large screens. This will lead to increasingly featureless design of mobile phones while consumers’ pursuit of personalized and diversified design is increasing.
Therefore, based on the theory of semiotics, this study aims to incorporate examples of symbolic design of superior products into mobile phone designs. With the design semiotics as the theoretical guide, the forms, communication, expressions, and extraction of symbols in mobile phone forms and interface is analyzed in this paper. The mobile phone forms and interface are deconstructed into unit symbols by means of deconstruction and analysis. The connotations and denotations of the forms and interfaces of mobile phones are extracted and analyzed, and the communication processes of the mobile phone models and the interface symbols are also deconstructed and analyzed. Specific mobile phone products have been taken as the objectives of study in this paper. By analyzing the representative mobile phone products in the consumer market, and based on the connotations and denotations of design expressions, this paper has discussed the symbols in mobile phone model design in the consumer market, the changes of symbolic expression in mobile phone interface design under technology development, and the extraction of symbols in mobile phone design. Aimed at solving the difficulties of expressing semiotics in mobile phone design and finding out ways to carry out mobile phone design and expression, the paper put forward its own suggestions and thus provide foundation and reference for new semiotic mobile phone design and expression.
