은평구 ‘천부지모비’의 성격과 변천 과정 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics and Transition Process of Cheonbujimobi(天父地母碑) in Eunpyeong-gu(恩平區))

초록

본고는 불광중학교 운동장에 있다가 1975년에 불광중학교가 운동장을 넓히면서 지금 있는 불광중학교 뒷산으로 옮긴 은평구 천부지모비(天父地母碑)의 성격과 변천과 정을 살펴본 연구이다.
우리나라 도처에는 수많은 서낭당이 있다. 지금은 많이 사라졌지만, 아직도 시골마을 입구나 마을 중심에 서낭당 혹은 신목이 세워져 있는 경우가 많다. 예부터 우리 민족은 하늘의 밝음과 자신 안의 밝음이 하나 되어 그 밝음을 세상에 펼치고자 하였고 그것이 제천수행, 제천의례라는 형식을 통하여 이어져 내려왔다. 처음엔 산 정상에서 행해지던 제천의례가 점점 마을로 내려오면서 제천을 행하는 장소가 서낭당이 되었고 서낭당 이외에도 신목, 장승, 솟대, 선돌 등 여러 가지 형태로 바뀌었다.
은평구 천부지모비는 마을제당이 서낭당 같은 제천사의 모습이 아닌 비석의 형태로 전해지는 사례이다. 당초 불광중학교 운동장 자리에 있을 때에는 제당 안에 비석을 모신 상태였다가 1975년에 불광중학교가 운동장을 넓히면서 지금 있는 불광중학교 뒷산으로 제당은 없애고 비석만 옮겼다고 한다.
천부지모비를 연구해 본 결과 천부지모비는 지리적으로 북한산 올라가는 산중턱에 위치하고 불광천이라는 하천이 자연환호 역할을 하는 ‘환호를 두른 구릉성 제천시설’ 중 제천사 유형임을 확인할 수 있었다. 제천단의 원형인 백두산 서편 고제단군과 우하량 제단군의 위치 또한 높지 않은 산구릉에 위치하여 많은 사람들이 모이기 좋은 곳에 위치하고 있음을 감안할 때 천부지모비는 그 일대 사람들이 다함께 모여 제천하기 좋은 장소에 위치하고 있음을 알 수 있다.
내용적으로도 천부지모비는 한민족의 삼원사상을 내포하고 있다. 천(天)과 지(地) 그리고 김매월로 대표되는 인(人)을 비석에 새겨 우리 민족 전통의 천ㆍ지ㆍ인 삼원사상 을 잊지 않도록 하고 있다. 또한 밥할머니 전승과의 연계성으로 천부지모비의 가치를 확인할 수 있었다.
즉, 천부지모비는 밥할머니를 신격으로 하는 한민족의 제천의례와 관련 있는 제천단 이었을 가능성을 확인하였다. 서기전 4000년 전부터 면면히 이어온 한민족 제천단의 최적의 입지인 ‘환호를 두른 구릉성’ 입지에 ‘천ㆍ지ㆍ인’ 삼원사상을 내포하고 비석 형태로 전해지고 있는 천부지모비의 제천단으로서의 문화재적 가치는 충분하다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 제천단의 모습이 아닌 천부지모비와 같은 비석 혹은 신목, 장승, 솟대, 선돌 등 여러 형태로라도 지금까지 남아있는 유적은 전국 도처에서 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있다. 이러한 많은 제천단의 변형적인 형태가 민속이나 무속적인 시각을 넘어 선도적인 해석으로 그 문화재적인 가치가 재인식되고 복원하는 사례가 많아지길 희망한다.

영어초록

This thesis is a study examining the nature and transition process of Cheonbujimobi(天父地母碑) in Eunpyeong-gu(恩平區), which was located in the playground of Bulgwang Middle School and was moved to the mountain behind Bulgwang Middle School in 1975.
There are numerous village guardian deity shrines everywhere in Korea. Although it has disappeared a lot now, Seonangdang(shrine to the village deity) or Sinmok(a tree sacred to the gods) is still often built at the entrance to rural villages or in the center of the village. Since ancient times, the Korean people have tried to spread the brightness of the sky and the brightness within themselves to the world, and it has been passed down through the form of Heavenly ritual practice and Heavenly rituals. As Heavenly Ritual, which was initially practiced at the top of the mountain, gradually came down to the village, the place where Heavenly Ritual was practiced became Seonangdang, and in addition to Seonangdang, various behaviors such as Sinmok, Jangseung(Korean traditional totem pole), Sotdae(a pole signifying prayer for a good harvest), and Seondol(Menhir) were changed.
The Cheonbujimobi Monument in Eunpyeong-gu is an example in which a village shrine is transmitted in the form of a monument, not in the form of Heavenly ritual shrine like Seonangdang. Initially, when it was located in the playground of Bulgwang Middle School, a monument was enshrined in the shrine, but in 1975, when Bulgwang Middle School expanded the playground, the shrine was removed and only the monument was moved to the mountain behind Bulgwang Middle School.
As a result of studying Cheonbujimobi, it was confirmed that Cheonbujimobi is a type of Heavenly ritual shrine among the "hilly Heavenly ritual facilities with surround lake" located in the middle of the mountain that goes up Bukhansan Mountain geographically and acts as a natural surround lake. Considering that the locations of old Altars on the west side of Baekdusan Mountain, which are the prototype of Heavenly ritual Altar, and Niuheliang (牛河梁) Altars, are also located in a good place for many people to gather and perform in Heavenly ritual.
In terms of content, Cheonbujimobi contains the idea of the Korean people’s Samwon(三元). The monument is carved with people represented by heaven and earth and Kim Mae-wol so that they do not forget the idea of Samwon, the heaven and earth of our nation. In addition, the value of Cheonbujimobi was confirmed by the connection with the transmission of Bob-Halmoni(Cooked-rice Grandmother).
In other words, it was confirmed that Cheonbujimobi was the Heavenly ritual Altar, which was related to the Heavenly ritual of the Korean people, which was dedicated to Bob-Halmoni. It can be said that the cultural value as a Heavenly ritual Altar of Cheonbujimobi, which is handed down in the form of a monument, is sufficient for the "hilly Heavenly ritual facilities with surround lake" the best location of the Korean Heavenly ritual Altar since 4,000 years before AD. In the meantime, relics such as Cheonbujimobi, which have remained so far, can be easily found throughout the country, even in the form of a monument, not in the form of Heavenly ritual Altar. It is hoped that there will be more cases in which the value of the cultural heritage is re-recognized and restored as a Korean SunDo’s interpretation.
