실시간 온라인 수업에서의 의사소통 능력 향상을 위한 말하기 활동 연구-한국어 초급 교재 분석을 중심으로 (A study on speaking activities to improve communication skills in real-time online classes - Focusing on the analysis of Korean beginner’s textbooks -)

초록

본 연구는 한국어 초급 교재 분석을 통해 실시간 온라인 수업에서의 의사소통능력 향상을 위한 말하기 활동 구성 방안을 제안하는 데에 목적이 있다. 코로나19의 영향으로 실시간 온라인 수업의 다양한 형식이 대학 부설 한국어 교육 기관에 보급되어 현재까지 계속되고 있다. 교사들은 실시간 온라인 수업의 편리함을 체험하면서 동시에 실시간 온라인 수업 과정에서의 어려움, 특히 의사소통 능력을 향상시키는 방법에 대해 집중하게 되었다. 온라인 수업에 특화된 교재개발의 필요성이 대두되고 있으나 현재 온라인 수업을 위해 개발된 교재가 부족한 상황이다. 따라서 본 연구는 최근 출간된 주요 대학 부설 한국어 교육 기관의 교재 분석을 통해 온라인 수업에서의 말하기 활동이 의사소통 능력 향상에미치는 영향을 분석하여, 온라인 수업에 적합한 방법을 찾고자 하였다.
Khan & Tas(2020)에서 개발한 TICSA를 토대로, 말하기 활동은 의사소통 전 활동 및 의사소통 활동으로 나눈 다음 구조적 활동, 준 의사소통 활동,기능적 활동, 사회적 상호작용으로 세분화했다. 이 분류에 따라 교재의 말하기활동 유형을 분석하고 통계 데이터를 비교 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 본 연구에서분석한 모든 교재가 높은 비율의 의사소통 활동을 가짐을 알 수 있었으나, 말하기 활동 유형에 따라 차이가 크다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
본 연구는 기존 교실 수업에 사용된 교재가 온라인 수업 환경에서 학습자의의사소통 능력 향상에 미치는 영향을 말하기 활동 유형별 비율의 관점에서 분석하고, 말하기 활동 구성에 대해 제안하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 이것은 온라인 수업을 위한 수업 설계나 교재 개발에 도움이 될 것이며, 향후 실제 수업에서의 검증이 필요하다.

This study proposes a plan for organizing speaking activities toimprove communication skills in real-time online classes by analyzingbeginner Korean textbooks. Owing to the impact of COVID-19, variousforms of real-time online classes have been distributed to university affiliated Korean language education institutions and continue to thisday. While teachers experienced the convenience of real-time onlineclasses, they also focused on the difficulties in the real-time online classprocess, particularly on improving communication skills. The need todevelop specialized teaching materials for online classes is emerging;however, a shortage of teaching materials developed for online classescurrently poses a challenge. Therefore, this study sought to identify asuitable method for online classes by analyzing the impact of speakingactivities in online classes on improving communication skills throughan analysis of recently published textbooks from Korean languageeducation institutes affiliated with major universities.
Based on the TICSA developed by Khan and Tas (2020), speakingactivities were divided into pre-communicative and communicativeactivities and then subdivided into structural, para-communicative,functional activities, and social interactions. According to this classification, the types of speaking activities in the textbooks were analyzed, andstatistical data were compared and analyzed. The analysis revealed that allthe textbooks analyzed in this study had a high rate of communicativeactivity; however, the type of speaking activity accounted for asignificant difference.
This study is significant because it analyzed the impact of textbooksused in existing classroom classes on improving learners’ communicationskills in an online class environment from the perspective of the ratio ofeach type of speaking activity and proposed a composition of speakingactivities. This will be helpful in class design and textbook developmentfor online classes, and verification in actual class situations is requiredin the future.
