시사 토론에서의 말차례 뺏기 발화의 양상 -토론자 발화 의도를 중심으로- (Some Aspects of Interruption Utterances in Current Affairs Debate -Focused on Participants' Intentions-)

초록

시사 토론에서는 말차례 교체 과정에서 말차례 뺏기 현상이 흔히 일어나고 있다. 과제 중심 경쟁 대화인 시사 토론의 특성상 말차례 뺏기 현상은 자기 논의의 정당성을 인정받기 위해토론자들이 구사하는 인지적 전략의 하나로 볼 수 있는데, 본 연구에서는 말차례 뺏기 현상의기제로 작용하는 토론자의 발화 의도에 중점을 두고 시사 토론에서 행해지는 말차례 뺏기 현상의 양상에 대해 고찰해 보았다.
먼저 2장에서는 시사 토론에 존재하는 말차례 교체의 원칙은 무엇이며, 말차례 뺏기가 어떤 의미를 지니는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 시사 토론에는 사회자 중심의 말차례 교체 원칙과 대화로서의 말차례 교체 원칙이 공존하는데, 토론자들은 이러한 원칙을 인정하면서도 자신에게유리한 방향으로 토론을 이끌어 가기 위한 전략의 하나로 말차례 뺏기 행위를 하고 있다.
다음으로 3장과 4장에서는 사회자와 다른 토론자를 대상으로 이루어지는 말차례 뺏기의양상을 토론자의 발화 의도를 중심으로 고찰해 보았다. 토론자들은 사회자의 발언권 배정 및내용 전개 방식을 조정하고, 사회자가 제시하는 의견을 조정하려는 의도로 사회자를 대상으로말차례 뺏기를 하고 있다. 또한 토론자들은 상대방의 주장을 반박하고 자기 의견을 강화하는방식으로 논의를 조정하고, 자신의 목적에 부합하는 방향으로 토론 과정을 보완하려는 의도에서 다른 토론자를 대상으로 말차례 뺏기 행위를 하는 모습을 보인다.

영어초록

During debates on current affairs, interruptions made by participants are frequent occurrences while taking turns in the discussion. This study proposes that interruption can function as one of cognitive strategies for debaters to validate the persuasiveness of their arguments in current affairs debates which are highly contentious discussions of a controversial subject matter. Based on the basic perspective, this study has examined the aspects of the interruption utterances in current affairs debates, focusing on the debaters' utterance intentions that can be understood as the base of interruptions.
Chapter two has carefully observed the principles of turn-taking that occurs in current affairs debates, including what underlying meanings interruptions possess during debates. In current affairs debates the principle of a presider-led speaking order and its consequent taking turns to speak can be applied simultaneously with the turn-taking principle that reflects the characteristics of debates. Even though the debaters acknowledge these principles, they tend to speak out of order, making interruptions as a kind of cognitive strategies in order to lead the discussion in their favor.
Chapter 3 and 4 has respectively investigated the aspects of turn-taking that arises from the presider and other debaters with an emphasis on debaters'utterance intentions. With regards to the presider's role in current affairs debates, debaters intentionally interrupt the presider in order to have control the order of the right to speak as well as influence the development of the debate content and flow. Furthermore debaters interrupt the preside to moderate the opinions that the presider suggests. With disputes that are made among debaters themselves, interruptions occur as each debater attempts to control the discussion by refuting the opposing view while strengthening one's own opinion, including attempting to make up for the debate process to be led to the direction that accords with one's own purpose.
