명말(明末) 개차(岕茶)의 정체성과 차문화 (Tea culture through the identity research of Jie tea at the end of the Ming Dynasty)

In the Ming Dynasty, the monopoly position of tribute tea declined, and tea cultures centered on literati were formed. In particular, the end of Ming Dynasty was a period of transformation and a variety of new teas were created. At that time, books on the contents of various tea cultures accounted for more than half of the books written. Among them, 'Jie tea' is the only with the theme of only one kind of tea. Today, it is hard to know exactly the prototype of 'Jie tea', which is presumed to have been very famous through various records and tea-related books until the Ming Dynasty. However, it was cut off as all the records were lost during the Qing Dynasty. Therefore, this paper focuses on the identity of Jie tea by analyzing the tea-related records of the late Ming period and investigating why Jie tea suddenly disappeared from tea culture. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Jie tea adhered to the tradition of the previous era in which the tea was transformed into the roasted tea. Jie tea was an intermediary representing quietude and elegance in spirit and Qingtan, the ideas of some literati who did not respond to changes at the end of Ming Dynasty. However, during the Qing Dynasty, the social atmosphere and the tendency of the literary class changed. In addition, Jie tea, which is made with special craftsmanship and traditional handcrafting methods, was gradually lost because the tea industry developed and mass-produced teas spread. Thus, the time of complete conversion to the culture of drinking tea in the manner of roasted tea and methods of brewing tea can be said to coincide with the moment when Jie tea disappeared.
