한말 격변기의 내부 시선 매천야록을 중심으로 (Internal Perspective on the Period of Turmoil during Late Joseon Era: Focusing on Maecheonyarok)

초록

본 연구는 한말 황현의 매천야록 을 통해 당시 시대상의 고발을 살핀 것이다 황현은 광양에서 태어나구례에서 공부하고 상경해 과거급제 후 머물다 부패상에 실망 낙향해 구례에서 공부에 몰두하다 경술국치에 , 자결한다 동양고전과 서양의 이용후생 지식에도 밝았다 매천야록을 통해 연구자는 크게 세 가지 주제로 내용을 추출하고 해석 설명을 시도했다 분석결과 첫째 개화기의 일제 탄압상은 을사늑약 군대해산 토지약탈 방화 등 다방면에 걸쳐 맹렬히 비판했다 둘째 집권층의 무능과 부패상은 을사늑약 체결 과정의 오적의 행태 헌병대의 창설과정 부패상 관찰사와 수령 및 어사 등 집권층의 횡령 장관 부인들의 부인회 풍기문란 등 신랄하게 고발하고 있다 한편 민충정공의 장례식에 통곡하는 민심을 기록하였다 셋째 다방면의 인문지리 정세를 알리고 있다. 전국을 초토화 시키는 가뭄과 홍수 이로 인한 도둑 떼의 출몰 서울 대문 밖 호환을 기록하고 승냥이 출몰로 인명과 가축의 피해소식을 적고 있다 한편 북경에 황색눈이 내려 당시의 황사현상의 심각성과 샌프란시스코에 지진발생에 국내 식솔들에 대한 구휼로서 황실에서 금일봉을 내놓은 기록을 남겼다 매천야록은 년 전의 125 한반도 주변정세와 일제의 탄압상 황실과 집권층의 무능 및 부패상 다양한 인문 지리 정세 등에 날카로운 내부 시선 관점에서 고발한 망국 과정의 기록이다 당시의 시대 상황을 정확하게 알고 역사적 질곡과 국가적 난제들이 재발하지 않도록 오늘을 사는 우리의 반성적 삶의 지혜가 요구된다.

영어초록

This study examines the criticism of the society at the time through Hwanghyeon's Maecheonyarok. Hwanghyeon was born in Gwangyang, studied in Gurye, and moved to Seoul after passing the civil service exam, but moved back to Gurye and focused on studying after being disappointed with corruption, then ultimately committed suicide following Japan-Korea Annexation of 1910. He was knowledgeable in both Eastern classics and Western welfare. Researcher extracted the contents of Maecheonyarok under three main themes, and attempted to interpret and explain them. Following three points could be found through the analysis: Firstly, he fiercely criticized Japanese oppression during the modernization period in many aspects, including Japan-Korea Treaty of 1905, disbanding of military, land seizure, and arson. Secondly, he harshly accused the ruling class's incompetence and corruption through the examples such as the signing process and behavior of Five Traitors of Eulsa during Japan-Korea Treaty of 1905; corruption within the formation process of military police; embezzlement by the ruling class such as provincial and regional governors, and royal secret inspectors; demoralization of ministers' wives in Women's Society. Thirdly, he reported various situations regarding human geography. He recorded about drought and flood that destroyed the whole country as well as bands of thieves that arose following the disasters; appearances of tigers outside the four main gates of S eoul; damages to human lives and livestock due to the appearances of dholes. Additionally, he noted the seriousness of the yellow dust phenomenon at the time, as evidenced by the yellow snow falling in Beijing, and also recorded how the royal court provided money to the families that reside in Korea as a relief for the victims of the earthquake that occurred in San Francisco. Maecheonyarok is a record of a sharp internal perspective on the process of the decline of a country that reveals the circumstances that surround the Korean Peninsula 125 years ago, Japanese oppression, incompetence and corruption of the royal court and the ruling class, as well as various human geographical circumstances. It is required of us, living today, to maintain reflective wisdom so that we can understand the situation of that time correctly, and to prevent the recurrence of historical tragedies and national problems.
