만 2세 영아-영아 간 협응적 공동주의 양상 탐구 (Dual aspects in infant-infant coordinated joint attention)

초록

이 연구는 영아-영아 간 협응적 공동주의가 영아 후기 발달에 미치는 양상에 주목하였다.
실험상황이 아닌 영아-영아 간 공동주의 소통이 관찰되는 일상을 기술하고 분석하는 질적 연구를 통해 공동주의가 영아의 발달에 어떻게 활용되는지 살펴보았다. 연구대상은 서울시 소재어린이집 만 2세 영아 남녀 7명을 선정하고 영아-영아 간 공동주의 상황을 살펴보기 위해 보육실에서 일과 중 보여 지는 행동을 관찰하고 녹화하였다. 연구결과, 영아-영아 간 협응적 공동주의 모습은 영아 간 관계적 양상과 내용적 양상으로 나타났다. 영아들의 공동주의에서 관계적 양상은 ‘일방적 공동주의’, ‘쌍방적 공동주의’, ‘다자 간 공동주의’로 영아가 일상에서 소통하는 요소이며 다양한 활동을 위한 의도된 상호작용이었다. 내용적 양상은 ‘놀이참여 시도하기’, ‘다른 영아 놀이참여 시키기’, ‘또래 거부하기’, ‘또래 배제시키기’, ‘또래 의견 수용하기’, ‘놀이확장하기’로 자발적이고 주도적으로 이루어지는 사회적 행동을 보여주었다. 영아 간 공동주의는 놀이 참여 외에도 의도적 거부 혹은 무시를 통한 배제 양상도 보였다. 또한 또래의 의견을수용하고 조율하며 놀이를 진행하거나 가상놀이로의 심화 확장을 가능하게 하였다. 공동주의는 지지되는 교실 내에서 발현되므로 공동주의 출현에 대한 지지적 태도는 영아기 발달에 매우 중요한 역할을 담당한다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 협응적 공동주의가 영아 발달에 미치는 영향에 대해 인식하고 이해와 수용이 필요함을 시사한다.

영어초록

This study focuses on the effects of coordinated joint attention between infants on post-infant development. Through a qualitative study that describes and analyzes the daily life where joint attention communications between infants are observed, which was not an experimental situation, we examined how joint attention is used for the development of an infant. The selected subjects were seven 2.5-year-old male and female infants at a daycare center located in a middle-class residence district of Seoul. To observe natural joint attention situations involving infants, we monitored and recorded actions of joint attention during daily tasks at the day care center. The results showed that joint attention between infants in daily life had two aspects: relationship and content. The relationship aspect was "unilateral joint attention," "bilateral joint attention," and "multilateral joint attention" that were intended interactions for various activities of infants in daily communication. The content aspect was "trying to join the play," "bringing other infants to join the play," "rejecting other infants," "excluding other infants," "accepting opinions of other infants," and "expanding the play", that showed voluntary and proactive social actions. Joint attention between infants was communicated in various ways, and there was not only the aspect of eager participation with other infants’ play but also the aspect of exclusion which exhibited intentional rejection or scorn. Furthermore, the joint attention allowed infants to accept or adjust opinions of other infants to proceed in the play or expand it further into a virtual play. These aspects occurred in a classroom that supported joint attention of infants, supporting the emergence of joint attention between infants as playing a significant role in infant development. These results indicate that we need to recognize the effects of joint attention on infants as well as understand and accept joint attention occurring during infancy.
