藥泉 南九萬 詩의 品格 (Poetic Dignities of Yakchon Nam Guman)

초록

품격비평에 대해서는 인상비평이라 하여 부정적으로 보는 시각도 있었지만, 詩歌 연구의 최고 수준은 품격 연구이며 또 한문학을 심도 있게 연구하기 위해서는 반드시 품격을 다루어야 한다는 주장이 제기되어, 이제는 시문 품격에 대한 연구가 활발하게 이루어지고 있다.
藥泉 南九萬(1629～1711)은 조선중기에 관각의 중심에서 활동한 위대한 정치가이자 걸출한 문학가였다. 그의 詩文에 대해서는 ‘雄博·精深·贍蔚·紆餘·典厚·典麗·淸麗·明白·適切·切實’ 등 여러 종류의 품격평이 있으며, 그의 서예는 ‘古健’하다는 평을 받았다. 그리고 藥泉 자신도 실제 ‘淸奇’라는 품격 용어로 다른 사람의 시를 비평하기도 했으며, 詩와 跋文에서는 ‘勁健·邁往·壯健·宏偉·雄健·渾厚’ 등의 품격 용어를 사용하여 서예를 비평하기도 했다.
품격은 작자의 재능과 기질과 학식 등이 한데 어우러져 작품에 나타나는 전체적인 인상을 말한다. 일찍이 劉勰은 『文心雕龍』에서 ‘작가는 그 개성에 따라 작품을 창작하게 되는데, 이것은 만인의 얼굴이 모두 다른 것과 마찬가지’라고 했다. 藥泉도 “문장의 아름다움은 진실로 역시 사람에게서 말미암는다는 것을 또한 알 만하다.”라고 하여, 문장은 사람의 인품과 관련이 깊다는 뜻을 강조했다.
따라서 약천의 시문에 대한 품격 연구가 이루어져야 그의 미의식과 작품의 미적 특징이 제대로 드러나리라 생각된다. 이에 본고는 먼저 약천의 詩觀과 品格意識을 살펴보고, 劉勰의 『文心雕龍』, 司空圖의 『二十四詩品』, 郭紹虞의 『詩品集解』 등에 언급된 품격론과 약천 시문에 대한 문인들의 품격평을 근거로 하여, 약천 시문의 품격을 대략 典雅·豪放·雄渾·淸麗 등 넷으로 나누어 미적 특징을 살펴본 것이다.

영어초록

It was a fact that there was a negative viewpoint on the dignity criticism labelled it as impressionism criticism. A positive opinion, however, has also submitted, arguing that the dignity criticism is the highest stage on the study of poems. Then, lots of studies on the dignity criticism on the various writers' poems have been amassed by many researchers.
Yakchon Nam Guman(1629-1711) was a great statesman and outstanding man of letters living in the center of officialdom world of literature in the age of middle Chosun dynasty. His contemporaries rated his poems by using of critical terms of dignities such as 'great and extended, accurate and of depth, abundant and luxuriant, calm and composed, classical and profound, classical and beautious, clear and beautiful, pure and lucid, pertinent and poignant'. Even his calligraphy was estimated in the dignified category of 'old and strong'. Actually Yakchon himself also criticized other writer's poem from the aspect of the dignity criticism, saying the term 'lucid and deceitful'. And in his critique on calligraphy, he borrowed technical terms of the dignity criticism like 'vigorous, transcendental, sturdy, great, magnificent, of ensemble', which were easily seen in his poems and afterwords attached to other writers' collection of works.
Dignities mean holistic impression oozed out from the harmonies of talents, temperaments and all learning of writer. In his Literary mind, carved dragon, Liu Xie, Chinese critic, said, "As tastes differ, so writer makes works following his personality." Yakchon also said, "It would be able to know that truly the beauty of work comes from the man." Yakchon was emphasizing that the beauty of work had close relations with manliness of writer's own.
So, aesthetic characteristics and perception of Yakchon would be better understood on the foundation of enough study of dignities on his poems. My first turn of this paper was a study of Yakchon's viewpoint on lDignities, centering on the dignity criticism. Then based on the Chinese classical theories of Liu Xie's Literary mind, carved dragon, Si Kongtu's Twenty four poem-grading and Guo Shaoyu's Collected comments to poem-grading, I categorized and analyzed his poetic dignities into four, 'classical, free and extensive, magnificent and of ensemble, clear and beautiful', and finally approached to his aesthetic characteristics.
