아르키메데스 타일링 기법을 응용한 제주효제문자도의 텍스타일 패턴디자인 개발 - <충>자도를 중심으로 - (The Development of Textile Pattern Design using Archimedean Tiling of Jeju-Hyojemunjado - Focused on Characters -)

초록

In the global fashion market, the need of design with national culture and its meaning appears. For this purpose, the combination between traditional cultural prototype and the contemporary technology is stressed in the creative design development. The aim of this study is to develop a modern textile pattern design by applying traditional cultural prototype as a specialization strategy of local cultural contents related to traditional culture. For this purpose, the study selected character <Chung> (fidelity) among Jeju-Hyojemunjado as a traditional cultural prototype. The reason why <Chung> is selected is to remind fidelity as an essential virtue in the contemporary community where the didactic meaning of <Chung> has diminished. On the basis of the result of examination of symbolic meaning and formative characteristics of <Chung>, modern textile pattern design was developed and suggested by applying Archimedean tilings. The study selected a strong character with drawing features among <Royalty> in Jeju-Hyojemunjado, made motif in the method of rotation, deformation, assembly and disassembly. Also, it has patternized into 12 Archimedean tilings(3 Platonic-tilings and 9 semi-tilings) techniques and developed and suggested modern sense of textile designs. A symbolism on fidelity, chastity and integrity was expressed in dragon, carp, shrimp, clam, and bamboo as the symbolic meanings and formative characteristics of <Chung>. It was composed of unique formation of 2-layers or 3-layers of screen display which icons fish like carp, horse-head, bird, flower, plant, and constellation were appeared. Motif was extracted from it and basic repetition unit is reconstructed in the manner of rotation of line, deformation, combination, and disassembly.
This repeat was used to design 12 kinds of patterns using Archimedean tilings that consisted of 3 Platonic-tilings and 9 semi-tilings. For design manufacturing tools, Adobe CS5(Photoshop & Illustrator) and TexPro Design CAD were used. In conclusion, as the study developed and suggested a textile pattern design of <Chung> among Jeju-Hyojemunjado in order to construct competitive local cultural contents from traditional and unique cultural resources extracted in the traditional culture of Jeju, it demonstrated sufficient possibility for traditional cultural prototype to be used as a fashion cultural goods. Furthermore, it is expected that textile pattern developed based on traditional cultural prototype could be applied to the development of fashion cultural goods.
