A STUDY ON THE STATUS OF CYBERBULLYING AND COUNTERMEASURES FOR THE SOLUTIONS

Cyberbullying is defined as a word and used first time by Bill Bersey. It means a person or group using the information and telecommunication technologies to harm the specific one as the intentionally, repetitively and hostile activities. Lately, Cyberbullying problems have rippled at the United States society. But this is not the only happen in the United States. Recently in Korea, we need to recognition that similar cases have occurred often. Recently, a suicide of adolescent who had suffered bullying on the online gave shocks to our society. Therefore, through in this study tried to understand the current cyberbullying situation around Daegu city and to find countermeasures. According to the analysis results about responses most students did not properly recognize the cyberbullying and 23.6% of the total respondents have been bullied on the internet. It means seriousness of cyberbullying damage are the same level of America's. Also, a remarkable point is that victims are enduring by themselves without reports on their pains because of scared that the bully will retaliate; half students responded. It indicates there is an important matter, which caused by defective Social Safety Net of South Korea yet. The students pointed out a legal proposal for solving the cyberbullying; suitable measures in school, the establishment of the cyberbullying task force, and designate the cyberbullying as illegal behavior. About the cyberbullying types, which Nancy Willard had divided, the majority of students chosen the Flaming. According to the gender of respondents, most males suffered from Flaming on the other hand, most females were harassed with Outing. Besides, regarding to witness of Cyberbaiting, boys pointed to Outing and girls indicated Flaming; this result contrasts with an experience of victims. In regard to reactions about the cyberbullying, there are significant gaps between victim students and non-victim. Finally, this study suggests legal action, educational action, technical action, and individual action as countermeasures for the cyberbullying.
