『和英語林集成』의 三字漢字表記語 (The Three-character Kanji Notation Word in “和英語林集成”)

초록

本論文は、『和英語林集成』に載っている三字漢字表記語の性格について研究したものである。初版(1867)、再版(1872)、三版(1886)における三字漢字表記語の増補の実態、語種別分布、語種別性格を中心に分析した。 三版に載っている1873の三字漢字表記語を対象に調べてみると、初版には載っていなくて再版と三版で増補されたものが約60％も占めている。『和英語林集成』では、二字漢字表記語だけでなく三字漢字表記語も相当増補されたことと言える。また、再版で増補されたものは233語であるのに対して三版では899語も増補していて、再版よりは三版のほうで多くの増補が行われたことが分かる。これは、再版の出版後、三版が出版されるまでは14年がかかるが初版から再版までのそれは5年しか経ていないこと、三版が出版される1880年代が訳語の定着期になることなどと関係があるであろう。 語種別には漢語の増補が目立っているが特に再版から三版にわたっての増補が多い。初版から三版に至るまで宗教用語、江戸時代までの日常用語の増補は行われているが、西洋の新文物をあらわすための用語の増補は特に三版で多く見られる。 三字漢字表記語において、接尾辞の役割はとても大きいものと思われる。特に、漢語に用いられた漢字接尾辞(「□□＋■」構造の場合、■の部分)の使用実態および用法に関する研究は欠かせないことである。これについては、今後の課題にしたい。

영어초록

This is a study on the feature of the three-character kanji notation word (三字漢字表記語) listed in “和英語林集成(Waeigorinsyusei)”.
I first analyzed the actual condition of augmentation of the kanji words observed in the 1st edition(1867), the 2nd edition(1872), the 3rd edition (1886), and then word type distributions, and finally the feature of word type.
Looking at 1873 three-character kanji notation words in the 3rd edition, about 60% accounted for what was supplemented in the 2nd and the 3rd editions, not listed in the 1st edition. In “和英語林集成”, it can be said that not only two-letter kanji notation words but also three-letter kanji notation words were considerably supplemented. In addition, it was found that 233 words were supplemented in the 2nd edition, while 899 words were supplemented in the 3rd edition, and it was found that more additions were made in the 3rd edition than in 2nd edition. This is because it took 14 years before the publication of the 3rd edition, but it took only 5 years before the publication of the 2nd edition (after that of the 1st edition), the 1880s when the 3rd edition was published is regarded as a time where translated words were established, and so on.
There are many supplements from the 2nd edition to the 3rd edition; especially the augmentation of the Chinese is conspicuous in the word type.
From the 1st edition to the 3rd edition, religious terms and ordinary words up to the Edo period are supplemented, but augmentation of terms for expressing new things from western (新文物用語) is particularly common in the 3rd edition.
In three-character kanji notation words, the role of suffix is very special.　In particular, research on the usage of kanji suffixes used in Chinese is indispensable. I would like to leave this for future work.
