덕흥리벽화고분의 ‘觀者’묵서와 ‘觀覽者’ (‘Gwanja’ of calligraphy or ‘Audience’ in Deokheung-ri mural tomb)

초록

이 논문의 가장 큰 핵심은 덕흥리벽화고분을 관람했던 ‘觀者’ 즉, 觀覽者의 존재를 밝힌 것이다. 漢代의 畵像石이나 壁畵古墳에는 ‘擧孝廉’ 차원에서 무덤을 주변인들에게 공개하는 경우가 적지 않았다. 덕흥리벽화고분 연도 동벽에서 확인한 ‘觀者’라는 묵서 역시 이들과 비슷할 것이라는 추론과 함께 安葬日에서 閉鎖日까지 40여 일의 무덤 개방 기간에 주목하였다.
벽화고분은 무덤 안에 상석이나 벽화, 묵서 등으로 喪葬儀禮를 표현하면서 출현한 문화이다. 벽화에 저마다 묵서된 傍題는 모든 벽화와 매우 유기적으로 연결되어 있으며, 일부는 마치 ‘觀覽者’를 염두에 두고 작성한 것이 아닌가라는 생각을 들게 한다. 왜냐하면 방제의 역할은 ‘해당 벽화의 내용은 이것이다’라는 점을 명확히 하기 위해 쓰인 것이기 때문이다. 따라서 고구려 벽화고분의 묵서는 무덤이 축조되고 벽화가 그려진 이후 그 벽화를 보는 사람들 즉, ‘觀覽者’의 존재를 의식하고 작성되었음이 분명하다. 이에 무덤 완성 후 내부로 들어가 벽화를 구경했을 외부 ‘觀覽者’들을 상정하는 것이 가능했다.
이와 관련하여 漢代의 墓葬文化에 나타나는 ‘觀者’의 존재를 주목하였다. 漢代畵像石 祠堂의 명문에서 확인되듯이 화상석 사당은 ‘觀覽者’를 전제하고 제작되었다. 또한 벽화고분의 장례문화에서도 ‘觀者’의 존재는 명확히 드러난다. 특히 “보고 싶은 자는 마땅히 신발을 벗고 들어와야 이것을 볼 수 있다”라는 내용을 통해, ‘觀者’가 무덤 외부에서 내부로 들어와 벽화를 보는 ‘觀覽者’임을 알 수 있었다. 이처럼 중국의 묘장문화가 외부 ‘觀覽者’의 존재를 염두에 두고 만들어진 문화라고 한다면, 고구려 벽화고분은 과연 예외적인 존재일 수 있는가? 라는 의문을 제기하고 이를 풀고자 노력하였다. 현재까지 무덤을 바라봤던 폐쇄적인 사고를 탈피하여 완전히 다른 연구관점의 전환을 시도하였다.

영어초록

This article is a study that analyzes the character data of the Chinese tomb related to the ink writing of the Goguryeo mural tomb and examines the relevance of the tomb to Goguryeo. Through this research, I tried to confirm the process of the propagation-acceptance-fixation-extinguishment of the Chinese character culture from the tomb to Goguryeo. In addition, it became clear that ink writing functions separately from the viewpoints of the ordering, producer and viewer of the mural tomb.
In the study, I looked at the origin of mural tombs and the process of ink writing’s transformation in Pyongyang area. To analyze this, we analyzed the ink writings left in Deokheung-ri mural tomb, Pyongyang’s representative early mural tomb, which confirmed that Deokheung-ri mural tomb was a mural tomb of different lineage than Anak Tomb No.3, which was influenced by the culture of the mural tomb of Liaoning. In addition, the analysis of the ink writings left in Deokheung-ri mural tomb confirmed that after the completion of Deokheung-ri mural tomb, visitors could come inside the tomb to see the murals and texts. This also means that Deokheung-ri mural tomb’s murals or ink writings may be viewed as politically motivated.
Until now, the ink writings research of Goguryeo mural tomb has focused on identifying the nationality and political location of the buried person through the analysis of epitaph. The research on ink writings other than epitaph remained simple and was used only to explain the politics of Goguryeo. This method of study was too much to analyze the original function of ink writings.
Therefore, the company tried to find the original function of ink writings by different research and methods. Focusing on the reasons for writing ink writings in the tombs and the subjects who read the ink writings, it was intended to restore some of the changes in Goguryeo’s tomb culture. By looking at the structure of the tomb where the ink writings were written, it was also intended to create a foundation for understanding the system and locality of the mural tombs and the ink writings.
