디자인 개념의 인식론적 정초를 향한 탐색 (Exploration toward the Epistemological Foundation for the Concept of Design)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 초연결의 시대를 여는 제4차 산업혁명의 논리 앞에서 디자인을 어떻게 인식해야 하는가? 그 동안 디자인은 생산중심주의, 소비지상주의의 속도에 맡겨진 채 과학기술의 성과에만 의존해 왔다. 이러한 결과는 사회 문화적 영역의 윤리의 부재로 맥락화 되었다. 디자인 개념은 더 이상 외형의 심미성과 기능성만을 향하지 않는다. 디자인 과정 자체가 스스로 새로운 무형의 가치를 만들어 낼 수 있는, 즉 인간의 삶 주변에서 함께 유기적으로 호흡할 수 있는 역량을 필요로 하기 때문이다. 따라서 디자인 개념 일반에 관한 인식체계를 정립하기 위한 탐색을 통해 미래 패러다임과 상응하는 이론적 방향을 모색하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. (연구방법) 디자인 개념에 관한 인식적 균형을 탐색하기 위하여 기존의 디자인 인식론을 향한 개념들을 드러내야 했다. 본 연구의 방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제4차 산업혁명을 통한 패러다임 쉬프트와 디자인의 개념과의 관계를 통해 사회적 디자인의 의미를 추적했다. 둘째, 디자인 분야의 융합교육에 담겨야 할 요소들을 탐색하여 디자인의 통합적 사유와 인문학의 필요성을 도출했다. 셋째, 분석된 사실들과 맥락화한 디자인 개념을 통해 향 후 구조화 되어야 할 디자인 지식의 인식론적 방향을 제안하고자 했다. (결과) 패러다임 쉬프트에 상응하여 정립되어야할 디자인 개념 일반의 탐색 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학기술의 혁명적 사실들과 인간과의 삶의 영역에서 상충하고 있는 윤리의 문제가 드러났다. 이는 맥락적 디자인의 요구로 이어졌다. 둘째, 디자인 환경에 대한 디자이너의 책임 있는 의식을 향한 인문학적, 생태적 지식이 필요했으며 이를 위해 디자인 비평기능의 활성화가 요구되었다. 셋째, 통합적인 디자인 역량은 횡단적인 융합적 사유가 가능할 때 이루어졌다. 따라서 디자인 지식을 향한 융합교육을 통해 다학제적인 접근이 선행되어야 했다. (결론) 디자인 개념은 디자인 과정의 오브제로서의 대상에서 진일보하여 사회혁신을 향한 시스템의 조건이 되었다. 이를 위해서 상품의 가치와 삶의 가치를 함께 담을 수 있는 디자인 일반의 개념은 디자인 비평, 교육, 이론 등에 다양하게 적용되어 역동적인 사건들을 일으키며 구조화 되어야 했다. 또한 사회적으로 다원화된 담론의 활성화와 흥미로운 통찰을 수용하려는 자세가 필요했다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) How should we perceive designs before the logic of the fourth industrial revolution, opening up the age of hyper-connectivity? Until now, designs have relied solely on the performance of science and technology while flowing at the speeds of productionism and consumerism, and, consequently, it has led to a lack of ethics in the socio-cultural domain. Designs no longer only address external aesthetics and functionality. Now, the design process itself requires the capacity to create a new intangible value, that is, to be able to breathe organically around human life. Therefore, this study aims at exploring the epistemological foundation for the general concept of design in order to find a proper theoretical direction to cope with the future paradigm. (Method) In order to explore the epistemological balance for the concept of design, this study has revealed the previous concepts of design epistemology. The methods of this study are as follows: First, by exploring the relationship between the paradigm shift and the concept of design in the fourth industrial revolution, a meaning of social designs was evaluated. Second, by investigating the factors to be included in the convergence education for designs, the necessity of converging designs and merging them with humanities was evaluated. Third, based on analysis findings and the concept of design, which was contextualized throughout, this study suggested a proper epistemological direction for design knowledge, which should be structured afterwards. (Results) The following findings were revealed through the exploration of the general concept of designs to be adjusted in accordance with the recent paradigm shift. First, it was found that there are some evident ethical issues resulting from the contradiction between revolutionary facts of science and technology and human life, and these ethical issues have resulted in a demand for designers to have a contextual design. Second, it was found that designers should have humanistic and ecological knowledge to have a sense of responsibility for the design environment, so it would be important to promote the reviews and critiques of designs. Third, only when cross-sectional integrated reason is available would the capability to create an integrated design be available. Therefore, the multidisciplinary approach should be made first and it should be made with the convergence education for design. (Conclusions) The concept of design has become a prerequisite condition for the system required for social innovation. For this, the general concept of design, which contained both the value of product and the value of life, became structured while causing various dynamic events after being applied in various fields including criticism, education, and design theory. It also needed a position to accommodate the activation of socially diverse discourses and interesting insights.
