초록

「고조선」조의 고기에 대해서는 적어도 3백년 이상의 연구사가 축적되어 있다. 그간에 여러검토와 비판이 이루어졌지만, 우리는 여전히 그 성격부터 성립시기에 이르기까지 합의된 의견을 가지고 있지 못하다. 그만큼 복잡다단하기 때문이다.
「고조선」조의 고기가 담고 있는 단군신화는 단군의 어국와 향국을 역년으로 접근한 권근의사례에서 확인되듯이 비교적 이른 시기부터 변증을 통해 해석되어왔다. 17~18세기에는 변증이 활발하게 이루어졌다. 성리학의 눈을 통해 들여다본 그 신화는 황탄하고 佛說에 둘러싸인것으로 비판되었다. 괴력난신이 일연을 통해 神異로 전환된 앞 시대의 시선과 전혀 달랐다.
그렇지만 그들은 비판에만 머물지 않았다. 그들의 관심은 단군신화를 조선 상고사의 서두에재정립하기 위한 것이었다.
일제강점기 일본인어용학자들은 17~18세기 고기의 연구성과를 고조선 부정론에 역이용했다. 그들은 「고조선」조 고기의 단군신화를 일선동화를 위해 일본건국신화 안에서 재편하거나, 佛說에 근거해서 승려가 허구로 지어낸 가공의 仙譚에 지나지 않다고 비판했다. 그러면서『필원잡기』와 『연려실기술』에서 고기 또는 삼한고기를 전거로 실은 단군전승을 삼국시대의것으로 파악하는 오류를 범했다.
「고조선」조 고기에 대한 본격적인 검토는 비교적 근래에 와서야 이루어졌다. 여전히 그 실체를 삼한고기 또는 해동고기로 검토하는 시각도 있고, 단일서명으로의 『고기』로 검토하는견해도 있다. “옛 기록”이라는 자의를 존중하는 견해도 있다. 그 성립시기에 대해서도 『구삼국사』와 관련해서 검토되기도 하고, 「북부여」조 고기에서 분주된 “大遼 醫州界”와 관련하여 11 세기 후반부터 12세기 전반 등이 있는데, 이 글에서는 고려 건국 전후에 성립되었을 것으로추론했다.
고려시대에 유통되었던 고기류의 자료에는 단군 고기류로 묶을 수 있는 5~6종의 자료군이있었다. 그중에서 「고조선」조의 고기가 시기적으로 가장 앞선 자료였다. 「고조선」조에서 고기는 『위서』와 보합의 관계에 있다. 그렇지만 그 성격에 대해서는 향후 정치한 논리와 새로운자료의 발굴을 통해 본격적으로 검토되어야 한다.

영어초록

For over 300 years, researchers have accumulated historical examinations of the Ancient Joseon period's Gogi(古記). During this time, various studies and criticisms have been put forth, but it has proven impossible to form a consensus regarding the work's characteristics or even the date of its composition due to the complexity of the surrounding issues.
The Tangun mythology, encompassing the Gogi of the Ancient Joseon, seems to have been confirmed by examples provided by Gweon Geun(1352~1409), who wrote about Tangun's dynastic period, approaching the topic from the years of Tangun's reign. Scholars have thus used his examples, dating as the are from a relatively early period, to interpret this mythos. During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries these examples took on a more dynamic aspect. Scholars criticized scrutinizing the mythology from the viewpoint of Neo-Confucianism as both absurd and mired in Buddhist doctrine. This was an entirely different approach from that Iryeon(1206~1289), a Buddhist monk who attempted to reframe the wonders about ghosts from a previous age into a more acceptable depiction, divinity, choosing to focus on the story's sacred and heroic aspects. The scholars, though, did not content themselves even with this criticism; their concerns went further, centering around the complete reorganization of the Tangun mythos going back to the beginnings of ancient history.
During the Japanese colonial period, government-sponsored scholars distorted the results of Ancient Joseon's Gogi conducted during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to suit their own ends. Typical examples included scholars such as Shiradori Kurakichi, Imanishi Ryu, and others. Through their writings, Gogi of the Ancient Joseon article was reduced to a mere hermit tale based on Buddhist teachings written by monks.
One scholarly viewpoint advocates the examination of the true nature of the Ancient Joseon article's Gogi using the Samhan-gogi and Haedong-gogi. Another calls for the study of the Gogi based on the title of the work itself, while yet another opinion involves evaluating the title's underlying Chinese character, which translates literally to "old record". Studies have been done on the relationship between its date of composition and Samguk-sa. Related to Uiju county boundary in Liao Dynasty, part of the records of Northern Buyeo article, one can also see a separate examination conducted during the latter half of the eleventh century to the first half of the twelfth century into the Gogi's connection to the formation of the Goryeo dynasty.
Among the historical documents circulated during the Goryeo dynasty, scholars were able to extract specific documents concerning Tangun and compile them into the data group. These were composed of the Ancient Joseon Gogi, Tangungi, Tangun-bongi, and an ancient record of an unknown title appearing in Wangryeok, along with others. Among these, the Ancient Joseon article's Gogi was confirmed to have been the standout document for a time. A mutual relationship exists between the Ancient Joseon article's Gogi and Wiseo, but a new explanatory approach is needed to address all of the weaknesses inherent in the numerous hypotheses and inferences regarding the nature of this material.
