초록

삼국의 자료들은 임진왜란에 대한 기록이 너무 많이 달라서 서로 모순된 일이 많이 나타나므로 후세 연구자들을 의혹하게 하지 않을 수 없다. 그 당시 삼국의 역사적 환경과 각자의 입장을 생각하면 文書記錄에 자기의 공을 확대하며 적을 낮게 평가하는 것이 당연한 일이다. 뿐만 아니라, 정보 통신이 잘 되지 않은 시대에 勝負와 상관없는 기록 또한 상대국이나 제삼국에게 잘 못 기록될 수도 있다. 임진왜란에서 조선과 명나라는 비록 참전의 같은 편이라도 그에 대한 시각은 차이가 나타난다. 이 글은 지금까지 남아있는 명나라 때 중국인의 임진왜란 관련 기록을 기본 텍스트로 하여 명나라의 조선 派兵과 再造之恩을 중심으로 임란에 대한 명왕조의 역사시각과 기억을 검토해 보고자 한다.

영어초록

In Korea, Japan and China, historical records on the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592-1598 show so much difference and inconsistency, that the new generation of scholars cannot help but feel doubt about their credibility. At the same time it is obvious that in all these countries the documentation is going to reflect their particular interest and stance on the issue, highlighting their own merit and showing the other party in a negative light. Also, as communication between the three countries does not go smoothly, there is a possibility that some of the records, also in third countries, may contain contradictory or irrelevant information. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the approach to the Japanese invasion in Chinese historiography, which is based on records dating back to the Ming dynasty times and concentrates on China? dispatching troops to Chosun and its role as Chosun? saviour.
Although both the Ming and Chosun dynasties?history records depict their resistance against the Japanese invasion, their view of the war differs, since it was influenced by the unequal, tributary relation between the two countries. As it is indicated below, historical writing on the Japanese invasion in China reflects only the Chinese perspective and outlook on the war. Therefore if the new generations of scholars continue to research the Japanese invasion only through the materials and perspective of one country, they will not be able to go beyond the view that was established in the bygone epoch. It is crucial that scholars in China, Korea and Japan conduct a joint research to overcome these limitations.
