학업중단청소년 비행에 관한 소년비행론의 상대적 영향력 검증 (Verification of the Relative Influence of Juvenile Delinquency Theory on the Dropout Adolescents)

초록

이 연구는 일반적인 환경에서 자라난 청소년이 아닌 학업을 중단하고 학교 밖으로 나간 경험을 한 청소년이 비행을 경험하는 원인이 무엇인지에 대하여 집단적 특수성에 초점을 맞추고, 사회유대이론과 사회학습이론, 일반긴장이론 등 주요 소년비행 이론들을 적용하여, 비행에 관한 상대적 영향력을 확인하고자 함을 목적으로 한다. 연구에 활용한 자료는 한국청소년정책연구원에서 수행한 「학교 밖 청소년 이행경로에 따른 맞춤형 대책 연구(4차-5차)」의 5차년도 데이터를 활용하여 분석자료로 사용하였다.
주요 변수들에 대한 기술분석 결과를 살펴보면, 종속변수인 비행의 경우 남성 청소년들이 여성에 비해 더 많은 비행경험이 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었고, 성별에 따라 흡연과 음란물 시청 경험에서 매우 큰 차이를 보였으며, 남성의 경우 절도 경험이 있는 청소년들이 없었던 반면, 여성의 경우 폭행과 삥뜯기, 기물파손 등 물리적 폭력과 거리가 먼 모습을 보여 비행 행태에서 성별간 차이가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 다만 성별에 관계없이 음주, 흡연, 음란물 시청 순으로 많이 저지르는 비행의 종류가 동일하게 나타났으며, 약물흡입 경험은 전혀 없는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 독립변수들에 대한 집단간 비교 결과 여성이 남성보다 학업 및 직업 등에 더 많은 노력을 기울이고 있으며, 남성 청소년의 주변 친구들이 여성에 비해 더 높은 비행성향을 띄며, 목표를 이루지 못한 부정적 경험이 많고, 부모로부터 방임과 학대를 받은 경험이 많은 것으로 나타났다.
소년비행 이론의 영향력을 검증하기 위한 회귀분석은 2단계로 진행하였으며, 각 이론의 독립적 영향력을 확인하기 위해 성별을 통제한 뒤 이론별 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 일반긴장이론의 설명력이 6.2%로 가장 높았으며, 사회유대이론이 3.9%, 사회학습이론이 2.7% 순으로 나타나 일반긴장이론을 제외한 두 이론은 학업중단청소년의 비행에 대한 설명력이 낮은 것으로 확인되었다.
이를 종합하면 학업중단청소년들은 개인이 성취하고자 한 목표를 달성하지 못한 경험이 많을수록, 부모로부터 방임당한 경험이 많을수록, 친한 친구들 중 학교를 그만둔 친구가 많을수록, 부모와의 애착관계가 낮을수록, 남성일수록 비행을 저지를 가능성이 더 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 우리나라 청소년비행에 관한 대표 이론인 사회유대이론과 사회학습이론, 일반긴장이론 중 학업중단청소년의 비행원인을 가장 잘 설명하는 이론은 일반긴장이론이며, 특히 목표달성의 실패가 가장 큰 원인으로 지목될 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다.

영어초록

This study aims to focus on the collective uniqueness of why adolescents who have dropped out of school and stepped outside, not those raised in general environments, experience delinquency. By applying major juvenile delinquency theories such as social bond theory, social learning theory, and general strain theory, the study intends to confirm their relative influence on delinquency. The data used for the study were taken from the 5th-year data of 'Customized Measures Study According to School Dropout Adolescents' Transition Pathways (4th-5th)' conducted by National Youth Policy Institute.
Looking at the descriptive analysis results for major variables, it was confirmed that male adolescents had more experiences with delinquency than females. There were significant differences in smoking and pornography viewing experiences between genders. Males did not have any theft experiences while females showed distant behaviors from physical violence such as assault, extortion, and property damage; thus confirming gender differences in delinquent behaviors. However regardless of gender, alcohol consumption, smoking and pornography viewing were found to be common types of offenses committed with no instances of drug inhalation reported. Also in a group comparison regarding independent variables it was revealed that female adolescents put more effort into studies or jobs than males; male adolescents' friends had higher tendencies towards delinquency; they experienced more negative events when failing to achieve goals; and had more experiences of neglect or abuse from parents.
Regression analysis conducted in two stages was used to verify the influence of juvenile delinquency theories. Each theory's independent influence was checked by controlling for gender before conducting regression analysis per theory. The explanatory power of general strain theory turned out highest at 6.2%, followed by social bond theory at 3.9% and social learning theory at 2.7%. It has been confirmed that these two theories other than general strain theory show low explanatory power for school dropout adolescents' delinquency.
In summary it is indicated that dropout adolescents are more likely to commit offenses if they have many failed attempts at achieving personal goals; if they have many instances where they've been neglected by parents; if there are many friends who've also dropped out amongst their close friends; if attachment relationships with parents are low; or if they're male in particular.
Also among Korea's representative theories on adolescent delinquency - social bond theory, social learning theory and general strain - it has been confirmed that the best explanation for dropouts' cause of committing offenses is given by general strain theory especially pointing out failure in achieving goals as a main cause.
