유아의 수학능력과 수학적 태도가 수학학습잠재력에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Young Children’s Mathematical Ability and Attitude on Mathematical Learning Potential)

초록

본 연구는 유아의 현재 수학적 성취를 나타내는 수학능력과 수학적 태도가 수학을 배우는 능력 및 학습 가능성을 나타내는 수학학습잠재력에 미치는 영향을 알아봄으로써 유아의 학습 가능성을 예측할 수 있는 인지적인 요소와 정의적인 요소에 대해 규명하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 B시에 소재한 유아교육기관에 재원중인 만 4세~6세 총 98명을 대상으로 수학능력과 수학적 태도, 수학학습잠재력을 측정하여 각 변인간의 상관관계와 상대적 영향력을 분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 유아의 수학능력 및 수학적 태도 하위변인과 수학학습잠재력은 .35~.75 범위의 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 수학능력 하위변인이 수학학습잠재력의 훈련검사에 미치는 상대적 영향력은 ‘수와연산’, ‘대수’, ‘기하’, ‘측정’이 61%의 설명력을 보였으며, 수학학습잠재력 중 전이검사에 미치는 상대적 영향력은 ‘수와연산’, ‘측정’이 55%의 설명력을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 수학적 태도 하위변인 중 객관성과 끈기성은 수학학습잠재력 중 훈련검사를 51%정도 설명하며, 수학학습잠재력 중 전이검사를 60%정도 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 수학능력 및 수학적 태도 하위변인들 중 ‘대수’, ‘끈기성’, ‘기하’, ‘객관성’과 ‘측정’이 수학학습잠재력의 훈련검사를 66%정도 설명해주는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 수학능력 및 수학적 태도가 수학학습잠재력 중 전이검사에 미치는 상대적 영향력은 ‘객관성’, ‘수와연산’, ‘끈기성’, ‘측정’의 순으로 전체의 67%를 설명해 주는 것으로 나타났다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to examine effects of the mathematics ability and attitude of young children on mathematical learning potential in order to define intellectual and emotional factors that can be used to predict the childrens’ learning potential. For that purpose, the mathematics ability, mathematical attitude, and mathematical learning potential were measured among a total of 98 children who lived in B City and aged between 4 to 6 years old. Then, the correlation and relative effects of each variable were analyzed. According to the results, the mathematics ability of the young children, mathematical attitude, and mathematical learning potential showed a positive correlation in the range of .35~.75. Second, the relative effect on the training test of the subjects’ mathematics ability and mathematical learning potential showed 61% of the explanatory power for ‘mathematics numbers and operations,’ ‘algebra,’ ‘geometry,’ and ‘measurement’ while having 55% of the explanatory power of ‘mathematics numbers and operations’ and ‘measurement’ for the relative effect on the transfer test in terms of mathematical learning potential. Third, among the sub-variables of mathematical attitude, objectivity and perseverance explained 51% of the training test while explaining 61% of the transfer test in the mathematical learning potential. And fourth, ‘objectivity,’ ‘algebra,’ ‘geometry,’ ‘perseverance,’ and ‘measurement’ explained approximately 66% regarding the relative effect of mathematics ability and mathematical attitude on the training test of mathematical learning potential. As for the relative effect of the mathematics ability and mathematical attitude on the transfer test of mathematical learning potential, ‘objectivity,’ ‘mathematics numbers and operations,’ ‘perseverance,’ and ‘measurement’ showed 67% of the explanatory power.
