최인훈 문학의 기원과 진화론적 상상력 (The Origin of Choi In-hoon’s Literature and Evolutionary Imagination)

초록

이 논문은 최인훈 문학의 진화론적인 상상력을 연구하기 위하여, 에른스트 헤켈의진화론적인 시각을 살펴보는 가운데, 최인훈 소설 속 진화론적 상상력과 개체적 생명의 진화론적 위상을 분석하려고 하였다. 최인훈은 1960년대부터 에른스트 헥켈의 진화론이나 DNA 등 생물진화론에 대해 전문가적인 견해를 갖고 있었으며, 컴퓨터 공학이나 우주 탐사와 같은 영역에 대해서도 많은 관심을 가졌다. 이러한 과학적인 관점들은 인간의 생물학적인 조건과 문명사의 전개를 설명하고, 생물･인간･문명을 관통하는진화론적인 문학예술론으로 구체화되었다. 1965년에 쓰여진 「문학과 현실」에서 최인훈은 “생물적 종과 문명적 종의 합일체로서의 인간”이라는 내용으로 인간에 내재되어있는 두 가지 종적 개념을 소개하고, 「문학과 이데올로기」에는 생물학적 DNA와 문화적 (DNA)′를 구분하며 ‘개체발생은 계통발생을 되풀이한다’라는 이론을 통해 기호행동(문학활동)을 하는 인간의 특성에 대해 논한다. 에른스트 헤켈로부터 시작된 최인훈의진화론적 상상력은 종적 진화를 넘어, 개체의 반복 진화, 마음의 진화에까지 이르게된다. 이러한 생물진화론적인 시각은 광장에서 이명준이 에로틱한 사랑의 감정에동물이라는 조건과 원시적 생명성을 추구하는 장면이나 회색인의 김학이 ‘족보’를생물학적으로 이해하며 무수한 ‘나’를 발견하는 내용, 구운몽과 서유기에서 ‘미라’와 ‘화석’을 설명하는 장면을 재해석하게 만든다. 특히 화두를 통해 다양한 이데올로기(문명)와 개체적 생명(인간)의 진화론적 위상이 우주적인 세계관 속에서 집약되는 과정을 잘 보여준다. 이렇게 진화론적 상상력은 최인훈 문학의 진화론적 플롯과 예술론을 재구축하는 출발점이 된다.

영어초록

This paper is to study the evolutionary imagination of Choi In-hoon's literature focusing on Ernst Hekel's evolutionary perspective. Also, I tried to analyze the evolutionary imagination and the evolutionary status of individual life in Choi In-hoon's novels. Choi In-hoon had an expert view on Ernst Heckel's theory of repetition and bioevolution, including DNA, since the 1960s. He was also interested in areas such as computer science and space exploration. Choi In-hoon attempted to explain the biological conditions of humans and the development of civilization based on these scientific perspectives, and to create an evolutionary literary art theory that penetrates creatures, humans, and civilizations. In “Literature and Reality” written in 1965, Choi In-hoon introduces the concept of two species inherent in human beings as “the human being as the unity of biological and civilized species.” Choi In-hoon discusses the characteristics of humans who perform symbolic behavior (literature activities) through the theory that ‘geneticity repeats phylogeny’ and distinguishes biological DNA from cultural (DNA)′ in Literature and Ideology. Choi In-hoon's evolutionary imagination, starting with Ernst Heckel, extends beyond species evolution, repetitive evolution of the individual and evolution of the mind. This bioevolutionary view reanalyze the scene where Lee Myung-jun seeks the condition of animals and erotic primitive life in Square, or Kim Hak’s biological understanding of the genealogy and countless 'I' in Gray Man, and the scenes that describe mummies and fossils in GeUnMong and SeoYuGi. In particular, HoaDu shows how the evolutionary status of various ideologies (individuals) and individual creatures (humans) are concentrated in the cosmic worldview.
This evolutionary imagination is the starting point for reconstructing the evolutionary plot and art theory of Choi In-hoon's literature.
