Potential for Korean Investment in Regional Tourism of South Asia : An Analysis of the Tourism Perspectives of Bangladesh

The study employs efforts firstly to reexamine the economic contribution of regional tourism to the constituting economies of South Asia in terms of national income share,employment absorption, tourist income and expenditure in juxtaposition to those of South Korea. This seeks secondly to investigate the comparative tourism attainments in case study of one South Asian country (Bangladesh) and Korea in the light of additional parameters, i.e., tourism spending, capital investments and world heritage growths. Then an economic reality of tourism perspectives of Bangladesh is portrayed additionally to exemplify that shortcomings under regional cooperation in desirable tourism development necessitate bilateral investment initiatives with complementary economies like South Korea having proven tract of development and investment expertise. With this purpose, the paper consequently conducts the SWOT analysis for tourism FDI in Bangladesh sketching out the list of potential projects that can be developed for bilateral advantages beyond regional frameworks delineating economic justifications. Briefly browsing on the required national policy imperatives and given conditions the study finally presents the implications for reciprocal investment cooperation with South Korea and finds that the prospects for Korean tourism in Bangladesh are rather brighter among the other South Asian economies, and that such phenomena can both raise income and preserve natural and cultural resources so much so that specific country-centered investment would fairly strengthen contributions to regional as well as global tourism objectives by South Korea.
